ROSS’S GAME DUNGEON: THE LEGEND OF KYRANDIA 2

Red herring king? I'm reminded of the library from Monkey Island 2, although at least that made it obvious that most of the stuff you could pick up from there was completely useless. Good thing too, because even without the library that game would be a good contender for the title.

They might have kinda-sorta ripped off Monkey Island's music in that one place, but it sounds like Michael Land returned the favor; the track used in the underground salesman-world (and heard again at the end as you're giving out the awards) reminded me of the beach club theme from Curse.

Also I was thinking Roger Rabbit when the purple dragon started talking. But I do kinda hear the Ed Wynn similarity. I remember back in the very early days of Rob Paulsen's podcast Talkin' Toons, they talked about how voice actors trying and failing to do an impression has sometimes led to an iconic performance in its own right. "A bad impression is a new character" were the exact words. That's stuck with me, and now I wonder if that's what happened with Roger. Wouldn't be the first time someone's impression of Ed Wynn has been bad enough to become its own thing.

I must admit that when Zanthia uses her floating shoes this is the only thing that I can think of:

And Red Herring King? Pfft! I think this game would be dethroned easily by Jack Orlando.

Hope you will do Lands of Lore 1 one day. The humor and art and world here feel very close to Kyrandia. Hell, even engines are related! And music... peak westwood for me.

Legend of Kyrandia is one of the games that i bought and played based on your reviews (although i feel like you didnt do enough to prepare me for the labyrinth), this also led me to playing the second one. Really excited to see this review- i have been expecting it for a long time.

What if it was all a dream....

 

I love the idea of these kinds of games. I normally don't consider myself that big on fantasy settings, but I love these casual "fantasy-with-technology" or "fantasy-with-a-modern-twist" types of settings, and this game reminds me a bit of Myth Adventures. Dragon-based postal systems, a mustard delivery service, and volcano dinosaurs? Heck yes.
