  1. Since floppies were invented. There was several chapters on disk-based copyright protection in my CS textbook back in school, ranging from hidden sectors and formatting quirks all the way to laser-punched holes and partial demagnetization giving a specific read error pattern. Apparently that was quite a thing. But having grown in a country without the concept of copyright, i never actually encountered any of these personally. Oh, a disk image can be interesting for more than just neatness sake. There can be deleted files still on it, or something interesting like that, which won't show up by reading files.
  2. Signing in for priesthood.
  3. On a random request tangent, Ross, do you have Magic Carpet on your list of games to cover? Somehow i got reminded of that one while watching... And it's a game i never heard of since playing it in the 90s.
  4. Also, it's "I have to BLOW everything up! It's the only way to prove i'm not crazy"! There is also "I'm on your side! How many of you do i have to kill before you understand that!" You seem to have mixed the two together... Hm, the general theme is Freeman answering the narrator with his shouts. Benny Hill music does seem to cut it very well. Or, it's Benny Hill music, and no answering. Or, combine the two...
  5. And now i can't stop planning to do it.Thanks.
  6. Apparently, utorrent sucks for uploads. Changed to Vuze, and now it runs at full speed. Anyone still having problems downloading?
  7. Been seeding non-stop. Total upload so far - 500Mb or so. The upload speeds seem to go up to 100-200kb/s for a few seconds, then zero. Not sure what is going on - the ports are open, and the channel should be 100MB/s both ways.
  8. He said he still have all the files. Problem is, the episodes vary in resolution, brightness and quality - to get a consistent movie would require re-recording them.
  9. I tried doing something like that... Quit around episode 16, when the long list of problems culminated with a sound offset needing a full restart. Then again, my video editing is normally limited to setting the frame rate and picking the right music. It might actually be easier for Ross to do it - he have all the source files, and without the need to produce the sound track it should be a simple, automatic process. He might even do something like that anyway - the episodes are in a mess of quality levels, resolutions and encodings. If he is going to recode them all, then making the marathon video is going to be a side effect. Then again, how often would you like to watch all of FM in one go?
  10. The torrent should be available now: It's tracked on openbittorrent.com and publicbt.com. If I haven't screwed anything up, that's all you should need. The episodes 0 to 16 are recoded to avi, 17 to 42 are as downloaded from here (in variety of formats), and 43 till the end are from Youtube, in mp4. Totalling 7.3Gb. I'm at UTC+3, should be seeding from early PM till early AM. Great, thanks for clarifications.I don't think it was intended for the torrent to be announced everywhere, just an option you can take if you go here. It's not uploaded anywhere else. Rest well, and thanks for all the years of top grade entertainment. all_the_freeman.torrent
  11. I'm sure everyone else will voice our unanimous opinion on how awesome FM was, last episode included. However, there is a question that needs answering soon-ish. Concerning a torrent of all FM episodes: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=7606&p=218384#p218384 Ross, is it ok if i post it?
  12. So, the torrent is ready. 71 episodes (68 mainstream, 0, 10.5, 61.5), totalling 7.3Gb, plus a "play all" script for Mplayer. I'm ready to post it as soon as Ross gives permission. If he gave it already, let me know where.
  13. Aaaand... 2015 starts rolling around the globe. You can't stop the Freeman now!
  14. Yeah, that is probably the most fair option.Otherwise, he only have 40 minutes left.
  15. Living on a round planet is hard for scheduling... It's 23:16 in Poland now, so the today is not yet up. It's about 18:16 in USA, so the today is far from over. It's 9:16 on the next day in Sydney, so the today is far gone. It's 1:16 in Moscow, so i really should turn that robot off and go to sleep. 12 hours left till 2015 starts rolling... 38 hours till 2014 ends for good... This is our FM window.
  16. No, i have a robot to do this for me.
  17. Don't worry, there is still 24 hours left in 2014.Maybe even 36-ish, if you count by UTC (but that would be cheating). Don't forget - we won't appreciate a so-so video AND a lost bet, but everyone would love it to see an awesome video AND win a bet.
  18. Hmmm. Just looked through the sound files of the game. I wonder if Freeman would have a dialogue with Nihilanth before the battle. He have a lot to say.
  19. HLPrincess! Please, before it's too late - take a camera and record Ross voicing Freeman's mind! This is the last chance to get the historical material for "how FM was made" documentary.
  20. Oh, one more thing. I just listened to this episode with headphones. Good god... There are ambiances, there are many extra sounds, like the grenade's pin clicking against it's body or the HEV suit making metallic sounds while he crouches and stands up, there is a whole new dimension of sound there! If all you have is a 15 years old set of PC speaker, absolutely listen to all the episodes with proper gear while you wait for the finale - there is a lot hidden in there.
  21. Frreeeeemmmmaaaannnnn... Blowww mmyyy heeeaddd oofff, hhhmmmmm?
  22. Guess who will become the second man ever hit by a meteor... Seriously, making this in the middle of a death race FM marathon? Whoa, kudos and respect.
  23. I wonder which time zone the "later today" was referring to... It's today's morning in Seattle, it's approaching midnight in Moscow, and it's tomorrow's morning in Sydney. So, Ross is anything from 12 hours late to 12 hours left.
  24. I've been downloading episodes from Youtube as a matter of course (in mp4), so if anyone wants an (almost) full pack of them in a torrent that is easy to accomplish right now. Assuming Ross gives the permission, of course.
  25. One day before you! Haha! MuHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA! Hm, i thought Poland was at GMT+1, and thus 2 hours west of me? Then again, here all the "Christmas" mythos is "New Year" mythos, so we will be 6 days late regardless. Ahem, back to speculations... Hm. I don't think Ross will be mean enough to have Gordon kill Nihilanth just to wake up somewhere at home after a bad drug trip. I guess it's possible that Gordon will just shoot G-man's head off and wander on into an interdimensional traffic accident, ending up jumping between various games (aka "Freeman across the universe"). However, the most plausible theory is that it would just be a 30 minutes long final episode.
