I speak English, German and Dutch. Learning Dutch was REALLY easy because i already knew German and English. Dutch is basically a mix of a bunch of languages.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, not only is Dutch really close to German, it is also the closest major language to English (next to West Frisian, which is actually the closest).

I've always been curious about this. I understand my American friends, like Sublime and Rarity speaking English as a first language, but how did people like Alyxx (Norway), Kirky (Ukraine, right?), and others go about learning English?

This might be more profitable a thread if it was about what languages you've learned, and how you went about learning them, not just English. But that's just my opinion.

my parents beat me until i said "Mommy" for the first time at the age of half a year...then they spoke to me in stupid "Baby talk" until i figured out that they were doing that to be cute, not so i would come out sounding mentally handicapped. man, that was an awkward 17 years...

i thought "bababooee" meant "cake" for awhile...

Edit: but wait, what do you want me to do?

Change the title to "How did learn the languages you know?"

I was very advanced in learning English. I was pulling letter magnets off the fridge for my dad by 1 year and I could read at 2. When I was 4, I read the first Harry Potter book, then excitedly told my parents what each part was as we watched the movie. I was a spoiler tagged bundle of joy! :D

Anyway, I don't remember much from learning English. I just remember always knowing it since childhood. As for reading and spelling, I always got A's on my spelling tests in school and was usually at the top of my class for reading. I cannot say the same for my other subjects sadly...

btw Fluttershy, you can change the name by editing your first post you know. EDIT: of course I get ninja'd
