October 2016 Update #2

As a follow-up to the last update, I’m afraid I’m going to have to cancel (or at least postpone) the Zombie Panic session I was hoping to have. The reason is simply that I think I’m going to need all the time I can get in order to finish the next Game Dungeon and I’m concerned that will cut into things too much. This is a disappointment I know, but I would be more disappointed if I didn’t have the next video out in time for Halloween. I’m still interested in having a session of it in the future, so maybe that can happen in November. While it of course fits the Halloween season the best, for me, any day is a good zombie invasion day. Anyway, the next update should be the Halloween episode!

I'm sorry to hear that, but it's all good. I always enjoy Game Dungeon. Has your pulmonary situation improved at all?

Best I can tell, yes. I found a small patch of light discoloration on that wall that seemed to be the source of the problem that I've treated pretty thoroughly. I'll mention it more when I do the next videochat.

In my opinion it doesn't matter that much if you miss the Halloween deadline. Say you work really hard on the episode and manage to get it done at 8 PM on the 31st. That still means you missed it for every timezone outside America, and most of the world would be asleep by then. Not to mention the fact that most people celebrate this year's Halloween early, during this weekend, since it's on a Monday.

I wouldn't mind waiting, even to the next weekend. Take your time, Ross... and don't stress it.

I keep imagining you pulling all-nighters with twitching eyes and empty coffee mugs everywhere, working nonstop on your Game Dungeons.

Don't fuck around with mold. I got pneumonia from the mold situation in my old building (which incidentally flooded when a pipe broke and almost killed a guy when it fell on him. DOD contractors for the win.). Looking forward to playing some zombie panic though, since I haven't played in years and the community pretty much dropped off the map, not unlike that water pipe that dropped on that guy.

You are going to upload the halloween game dungeon on saturday again to get more views and come up with something like "I worked all day, didn't even sleep and still didn't finish it on time, right?

P.S Sorry for being rude but it's way too obvious to me at this point,it's been the same since you started game dungeon.

The episode is edited, but Premiere is giving me a hell of a time about processing peak files before I can even render anything. I discovered a bug I wish I had discovered years ago, but it means this will definitely be late European time, maybe not USA time though.

Well first off, yes, you are being rude. You're accusing me of being a liar about working hard on the videos essentially. The fact that you're saying this to me when I HAVEN'T slept recently makes your timing impressively bad also. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that this is a comment made out of wanton ignorance about everything involved with what I do, rather than intended malice. I hope you at least understand how insulting what you're saying is to me. If that's your intent, then congratulations. As a play on words from Metallica: "If you hate me, I don't want you as my fan."

The smart thing for me to do is probably to ban you, because you're showing a complete lack of respect with a comment like that, but just in case, I'll try to deconstruct what you're saying:

-I've never intentionally held a video back from the public for even 24 hours unless it was for a contest that didn't allow for public release until after it was over. The most I'll do is if I see it's going to be VERY late before I'm done, I sometimes push release to the next day during more optimal hours.

-I'm not even aware what days are good or bad to release on, I just get them out when they're done. Obviously for a holiday release, I try my damndest to have it done on or before the holiday. This doesn't mean I'm good always good at that.

-Carnevil was released very late Friday on Halloween and I believe was the longest Game Dungeon I made at the time. The Secret World was released on late Saturday because it was Halloween also a long episode on top of 3 others I did that month. I was also very late on the 4th of July releasing Arcade America. I was also running late releasing Polaris Snocross on Christmas, and even finishing Freeman's Mind before New Year's Day. I almost didn't finish my birthday video in time last year. Many projects unfortunately take more time than I was able to anticipate, so sometimes the only way to make a deadline under those circumstances is to work around the clock. Even recently, I was hoping to have all 3 Deus Ex videos done before the new game released, but wasn't even close to making that.

-Releasing very late in the day is NOT good for views, it means I'm desperately trying to make a deadline. Moreover, releasing a video a WEEK late, is much worse for views than a DAY or hours late.

-I would LOVE to have videos out early. That was even my plan this year, I cancelled 3 videos I was planning on going so I could have a sane amount of time to work. I did not forsee having to clean out a portion of my entire apartment due to the air quality being so bad I was choking on it. This set me back severely.

-I have never lied once about being low on sleep when I say I am or working around the clock on something. It's a source of shame for me when I can't meet a deadline, especially one that's holiday themed. I fucking hate having to lose sleep on a project. Working while you don't have enough sleep is a horrible feeling and means things are not working. I really hope to transition to something that's a little more sustainable in the future. I push myself because I know people want more videos, but I can only deliver something of a minimum quality level so fast. I honestly don't know how some Youtubers are able to crank out quality videos as fast as they do.

-To the best of my knowledge, I haven't lied to anyone online when it's not April Fool's Day. Even if you don't believe anything I'm saying, I'm sure you can look up the times and releases of my many other videos to see it doesn't especially follow a pattern of optimized release dates, or times, when it comes to holiday ones. Afterall, I can't fabricate when the damn videos were released.

All I can figure is if it's "way too obvious" to you that I'm somehow holding back videos to be released on Saturdays, then lying about working on the videos and losing sleep trying to make deadlines, that you have no experience whatsoever making videos with a similar level of effort as what I try to put into mine. I try to be as tolerant as I can, but people who think I just clap my hands together and a video is made can be frustrating to deal with. I share the frustration I haven't produced more than I have, but at the same time, I have an understanding of everything involved with it. In the same way a cartoon is easy to watch, it involves tens of thousands of frames of animation.

Anyway, you can post a defense if you want, but if you make more comments with a similar tone as that, you're going to get banned. People don't have to agree with anything I say, but civil discourse is a requirement for these forums. Accusing someone of lying (especially me, because I KNOW I'm telling the truth about myself) without evidence is not civil behavior. If I ever say something that I'm misinformed on, I encourage people to fact check me, but this is not one of those cases.

Ross, don't trouble yourself with that rude poster; they have no appreciation of the difficulty of creating quality content.

Have some respect for Ross, or leave the forums. Such negative attitudes have no place here

I see you havent done any editing. I dare you to do even 5 minute video with decent ammount of cuts from ground up (meaning filming, sorting trough footage, organising it and on top of that, making up text & recording it without flubs- and thats just bare minimum).

Depending on skill level and complexity of the video, it can easily eat away your hours. And note im talking about literally living behind computer to get it done, that is excluding even sleeping time.

Point is: video making is extremely time consuming. So dont be rude, especially if people give you no cause to be rude. And on top of that give you free entertainment.

I was very tired when I wrote it (I've since slept) and was watching Premiere hold my video hostage until it could process some stuff prior to rendering, meanwhile the clock was ticking. So I was already tense from how much it was delaying the video and that post really wasn't what I wanted to see. In general I try to keep more perspective on things.

First of,I want to apologize,I know I was being extremely rude and I even said I was sorry for being rude in my original unedited comment " Sorry for being rude but...".I hesitated a lot before posting that but I ended up posting it.I don't even know why,I guess it's just because I really really do love your videos, all of them and I got a bit disappointed when the game dungeon wasn't posted on halloween.

You said that you would start doing it a lot sooner so you could have it ready for halloween,so the scenario form the last year doesn't happen again and you end up losing you sanity from all the work.

To all the people saying that I know nothing about editing and commentary.I use to do a lot of casting and post commentary professionally for Starcraft and starcraft 2 and believe me I know how saying same lines over and over again for hours until you get everything done, editing, trying to catch up with Korean players who have insane macro and micro abilities, figuring out what to say next as you are saying the current sentence live so you can't mess up can make you almost angry.Sleepless nights and a lot of aderal until I got diagnosed with all sorts of shit so I had to quit.

I never got annoyed when people asked immediately after posting a video "When is the next one coming out",even doe I spent hours and hours working on the previous one.I just knew they don't understand as much as I do and I can't get mad for that.Even if they did understand,it's like when you watch a new TV show and you get really annoyed when you watch an episode and you can't wait for another one, even though you know it took them hundreds of hours to record that season.I would never ban just for that,I considered it criticism and that was my job anyway.

As for banning me,I really hope you don't.Since I really am sorry. The reason I thought you were uploading only on weekend since like last 4 game dungeons were uploaded on saturday or sunday.Actually there is a story to this as well, some companies deliberately forced some of my friends to only release videos on sunday since statistically that is when most people would spare time to watch those types of videos, therefore it would bring in more revenue.

TL:DR: I wouldn't worry too much, but just be more careful about it if you can, if you think your post might look off as you write it then take a break, then remake that post from scratch and just get it out of the way, if not just don't post it, you don't lose much.

Honestly I don't think you have much to worry about, you made the post now and that's kinda it, it's just text in the end and Ross and anyone who read this thread will eventually forget about it and I'm sure he'll forgive you, when I read what you posted I just assumed you were slightly dissapointed and not much else, there's not much you can do now other than to just kinda move on and post as usual.

I think all you could probably do next time is just be more careful about it, but even then it's not exactly the end of the world, you can still enjoy watching these videos and I'm sure everyone else won't mind what you said that much as long as you just kinda move on.

I honestly don't take things too personally on the internet seeing as it's difficult to convey emotions through text sometimes, or even your thoughts (I have a hard time fully getting all my thoughts out), so if I see overly negative posts about me they might bother me at the moment, but then I just take a break, even read the post again if it had some good points (even if they might've looked extremely negative to some), use what that person told me to improve myself or my work and just kinda move on.

I think the best thing to do in this case is to not respond to such posts, maybe just lock the thread, allow you to figure out what you did wrong and just move on, instead of having other people respond in a bad way, where in the end everyone kinda feels bad about themselves, although some people don't and mainly post to stir things up, but it's okay to just move on.

The best thing to do in these cases is really to try and see if that person has some points, and maybe not even respond to them, seeing as in most cases their intent isn't to be harmful, I see a lot of people expressing dissapointment in this way. Otherwise, it mostly depends, but again I really don't take things too personally, it's not worth ruining your day over some text, and some people need to understand that talking over the internet with text is completely different and has a different feel to it than when you speak to that actual person live.

Some people are just assholes and there isn't much you can do about them, if you really need to deal with them just ban them for like a few months and move on, more posts usually don't help, or take the good points without letting any emotions get over to you and use that to your advantage.

TheGameIntersect, if you love the videos, there's a really great reason for that. Ross pours a lot of time and effort to tweak every portion of the video to create a unique experience. I look at Moon Gaming as a great example. He had a vision, poured time and effort into it, and the humour missed the mark. But think of the time he put into that. The recording alone is long enough. Then imagine the edit time, all for a video that was a failure. Then look at the April Fool's video making fun of that video. Ross has a vision he wants to hit, and he hones it until it comes out how he likes. And sending himself up shows he's honest about his own failings.

I've followed Ross from the very start. Though I don't post and comment constantly, I have seen pretty much all his content, and followed his process. He's almost always under some form of time crunch because he takes so much time to get it right. He could easily churn out cheap, facecam garbage like many YouTubers, and everyone here would likely still watch it. Hell, he might even gain more views and money, and could be een more topical. But it would not even touch on the iconic quality of Freeman's Mind or Game Dungeon. He would just devolve into someone like Markiplier. And as much as I love some of what Mark does, most of his videos are forgettable. I far prefer the content Ross makes, and I'm patient enough to come back when it's ready.

TL;DR: A true fan understands the work Ross does. He's not perfect, but he works hard to entertain us. So just be patient.
