Every people on Earth is capable of doing something like that. If we just dismiss it as somebody else's problem, next it will be us. While I am as likely as anybody to occasionally drop a joke or two about the German way of solving problems in Europe, I make it a point not to forget that there was a lot of collaboration with Nazis in Poland, in the Ukraine, in Russia, in Britain, in the US, in Africa, in the Middle East - you name it. I believe that the Israel's behaviour on their own land is not much better at times. Russians just like to make life difficult for each other (out of sheer boredom, I presume). Combine communism with local peculiarities and you get a Cultural Revolution or Cambodia. Mix McCarthy with anti-communism and the Land of the Free becomes anything but. Fundamentalist views (no matter which ideology or religion) is a plague on humanity, caused mostly by ignorance and stupidity. (Sorry for the rant...) Regards

"There's No Tomorrow" (documentary on civilization problems)
Vapymid replied to Ross Scott's topic in Civilization Problems
It is a common misconception that human population is uncontrolled unless people are dying in droves - that is just not so. There are other factors, which are arguably more important - social and economic (in fact, it's probably all economic and social being a subset of it). I would suggest that the economic factor is the one with the most influence - simply because famines, wars etc are transient events while the economy is a constant ongoing process. To put it simply - in preindustrial and early industrial periods the economic factor was promoting the growth of population (more hands = more work done = better quality of life), while for the modern "developed" economies it suppresses the growth (children are expensive). Look at population dynamics - in many developed countries the growth of the population is due to immigration (i.e. reducing growth elsewhere) and increase of life expectancy, aka "ageing" of the population (i.e. temporary, which will soon lead to decline in numbers). So, beside the biological carrying capacity of the environment, humans are also subject to economic carrying capacity. Therefore, it seems to me that the best way to limit the population growth globally is to upgrade the developing and undeveloped nations' economic systems and *not* to knock down the levels of the developed nations. Well, there are quite a few, actually. I like Mrs Robinson and the girl from "Duncan" by Paul Simon I find Rael from "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" the most fascinating... Regards

A [mostly] instrumental. Nice percussion-led piece (after somewhat slow start). Even though the rhythmic section is repeating it does not feel monotonous as there is much variety in the accompaniment and the rythm itself is syncopated... iVCzXK4UKCQ Regards

Forms of Government/Political Parties

I don't know how effective such things are. I suspect that would actually be alienating to many young people with reasonable IQs. I have to say that we never did anything like that in the USSR (at least not in my school). There was one music lesson where we learned the lyrics and melody of the national anthem but that was about it... The last time such indoctrination was used in the Soviet Union was while Stalin was still alive. Regards -

I also like PF very much - Atom Heart Mother and Meddle are probably my favourites, also Animals and The Wall. But 10-slot limit cut them out I quite like the impressive little collection of music that is forming here and no one has nominated Justin Bieber yet - there is still hope for humanity! Regards

This is such a tough one - difficult to select just 10, difficult to say what means "the best" - some are good for one reason, some for another. For me it depends on the day, my mood, weather... After some thinking, here are the 10 (in no particular order), which probably made the greatest impression on me. I can't put into words and describe the subjective qualities of this music, certainly not in the brief but eloquent way Alyxx manages to do, so I won't even try. Suffice it to say that all are combined by the fact that they are relatively complex pieces, with lots of changing dynamics and time signatures. If you decide to listen to any of the songs - please have patience to go through entire duration because if you just listen to the intro it's not going to do justice to any of them... Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway v4tDKF_uwRI Other notable albums by Genesis: Tresspass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England By The Pound (with Gabriel), A Trick Of The Tail, Wind And Wuthering, Duke, Abacab (with Collins) Rick Wakeman - 1984 JHuyZArFiIk Also worth checking the 6 Wives, Myths and Legends, No Earthly Connection (very rare) and the unique A Suite Of Gods. Jesus Christ Superstar 3R8tRKIiAII This is *the* most definitive rock opera and there is nothing else like it, except maybe the Hair. Queen - Queen II ckRX0k9owAY Other good Queen albums: pretty much all of them Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Nightingales & Bombers Messin', The Roaring Silence, Watch are albums that I would also recommend, as well as a few songs (like Captain Bobby Scout and Jump Sturdy) on their first, eponymous album. rC28zdxOuRQ The Beatles - Abbey Road IM2Ttov_zR0 I don't think they need any introduction. Their different albums are interesting for different reason and their music has changes dramatically over the years from their first to the last release. Some people like the early Beatles more, some prefer the later periods (like I do). King Crimson - Lizard QqGNlyMpz7E In the Court of the Crimson King, In the Wake of Poseidon, Islands, Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Red and Thrak are what I personally like and recommend. Jethro Tull - Benefit WNRmavbTTQk They have been really prolific. Most notable albums: Stand Up, Aqualung, Thick As A Brick, War Child, Minstrel In The Gallery, Heavy Horses, Catfish Rising are my favourite. J-Tull Dot Com is interesting too. Van Der Graaf Generator - Godbluff Mfzr0a8zFcs Godbluff is the first of 3 albums which are the pinnacle of VDGG. The other 2 are Still Life and World Record. Their earlier work is also good, a bit more eccentric (Pawn Hearts is an acquired taste). The Aerosol Grey Machine, their first release, is very good as well. Jefferson Airplane - After Bathing At Baxter's lscRNsyEzs4 Well, this is the top of the US psychedelia (in the good sense). Surrealistic Pillow, Crown Of Creation, Volunteers are very good. The Airplane has later transmorphed into Jefferson Starship - I recommend Dragon Fly, Red Octopus, Spitfire. Regards

I think you're right. I would not have been able to live like that and hold a regular job at the same time - it would have been some sort of sabbatical to me. You know, take some time off to think of things then go back to work and routine. OK, just wanted to make sure... Regards

In the UK you can have a residential address for a boat at the moorings but the owner of the moorings will then be your landlord (unless you also buy the mooring site) and you will have to rent the right to moor at that address from him... Regards

Vega, it's your choice and I am not the one to criticise you in any way. However, there are some questions you need to at least consider before getting too used to this style of life: - you're probably never going to have a mortgage or a credit card or any kind of insurance without a permanent address - you will not be able to invest your savings without a permanent address and cash savings are a security risk and will be devalued by inflation; - if you plan to advance your career with your lawfirm or with another company, your life style will eventually be known and it will likely stop any prospects of meaningful promotion; - if you plan on running your own business you will need financing etc, and for that you will need a permanent address (but then you can live at your place of business, probably); - you will need a proper place to live if you ever decide to raise children (I won't dwell on the problem of getting a GF to do it with while living in a car); - not getting on the property ladder or a career path will become a handicap rather than getting ahead of the curve; - 5k in cash is not going to be enough for retirement... Although thinking of retirement at your age is exemplary but you need to think of your life first, otherwise the chances are you won't ever get to retire in the first place. Regards

Putting aside the question of why would anyone want to do what you suggest your "solution" actually does not offer any method. It's like saying "the solution to your company's poor performance is making more money" without explaining how to achieve it. So, how do you plan to achieve your final solution? Carpet bombing Africa with nukes? Force-sterilising Indonesians? Spraying India with chemical weapons? I'll leave it to you then to explain to your own children why it is that their daddy had PS3 and XBoxes and cars and hospitals and water closets but they have to make do with an abacus, a wheelbarrow, relieve themselves into a hole in the ground and die of dysentery before they reach 30. I don't think they will tolerate that crap for long, especially seeing my offspring flying over their head in nice airliners... Regards -

Wait a second.... No he doesn't, if you are talking about a physical property. All he can decide is how, to whom and for how much he sells it. He does not have any rights to determine what happens next to his product, after it has left his hands for a consideration he chose to accept. Not so with the IP. IP cannot be sold, only assigned or licensed. That allows IP owners to claim that they have special rights to control not only the distribution chain but also the final use of the property. However, the relevant laws were written long time ago and they don't match the real world practice and have to be interpreted in order to be applied. It is not a black and white situation and drawing 1:1 parallel with the physical property world will not work. A biology undergraduate is hardly an authority on the subject. The essay is confused and fails to make any rational argument to support her conclusions. I'm disappointed. Regards
