  1. Just to add my 2 cents into this discussion... Regardless what you drink (except maybe a pint in the pub at the end of the day), make you sure you don't forget to eat as well. Lots of people get too drunk simply because they don't eat enough while they drink. Vodka and other strong drinks (but vodka more so because it is drunk in shots) have a delayed action. From drinking a shot to its peak effect it will take about 20 - 30 minutes. Also, vodka "hits you in the legs", so the result is - you sit at the table, feeling fine, then you stand up (to go for a cigarette or something) and all of a sudden the floor rises and hits you in the face. So unfair... So, eat a lot, know your limit, keep count of what you've drunk, remember the delay factor and don't do it too often - other than that, it's simple. Regards

  3. Oh, wow, that was outstanding! Regards
  4. Aside from the small matter that Assange himself did not hack anything but just published the stuff others provided him with, yes, those are some of the reasons why the US establishment would hate him. But, you know, a burglar may hate a homeowner who installed an alarm system but that's just tough. It does not give the burglar rights to complain. If an intelligence service cannot keep its secrets tight or if a government gets exposed shooting civilians, ultimately, it is their own fault (the government's, not the shot civilians, I mean) and so, shooting down the messenger is not in their own public interest. But the US is trying to do just that and in the end they will only shoot themselves in the foot. Regards
  5. The guy's done it in the traditional way - no SFM. rSV8yDDznGc A bit melancholic but atmospheric nonetheless... Regards
  6. Mmmm, nice headcrab! Regards
  7. The US seems to have declared Assange an e̶n̶e̶m̶a̶ enemy of the state. Now any US serviceman/woman caught receiving an email xmas postcard from Assange can be shot. Let me be the first to congratulate Mr Assange with making the list of top mighty villains (such as the g̶i̶a̶n̶t̶ ̶c̶o̶n̶t̶i̶n̶e̶n̶t̶ tropical island of Cuba, late Osama Been Laden, and Gordon Freeman). Regards
  8. The Sun is too small to go supernova. It will gradually brighten until turning into a red giant in about 5 billion years, then, after another few million years, it will collapse into a white dwarf in a puff of smoke (literally), creating a planetary nebula. The value of real estate in the Solar System will by then be practically zero, so a relocation to another star system, well ahead of time, will be advisable. Regards
  9. But Stalker game is itself based on a book - "Roadside Picknick" by Strugatsky brothers and there is already a movie based on the same book, called, er... "Stalker". Directed by Tarkovsky. Regards
  10. From what I understand asexual people can be gay or straight, however, they lack any sex drive. This may be genetic or induced (psychologically or chemically due to some other type of trauma to the organism). All in all, asexuality sounds more like a disorder than an actual "orientation". But I also think that no adequate research has ever been done into the condition to say with certainty either way and, therefore, as with anything sexual, caution is needed before assigning "labels" to people in that category. Regards
  11. Yes, of course, Steam is needed to *run* the thing. But at least I can download the game on one machine and install on any other machine I want (yes, which must have Steam malware on it) without having to ask for anyone's permission. The quality of Black Mesa mod is impressive. Valve should retrospectively hire the developers and give them full back-pay and bonuses for quick release turnaround (by Valve-time standards ). Regards
  12. Hey, that was pretty good. Regards
  13. There is at least one good movie based on a computer game... LHY8NKj3RKs Regards
  14. Suitably melodramatic for Friday morning A4OwMa-VIEo iQ0m8Eafeok The album itself is a mixture of spoken story and music, narrated by C̶a̶p̶t̶a̶i̶n̶ ̶P̶i̶c̶a̶r̶d̶ Patrick Stewart and showing lots of guest stars, like Ozzy Osbourne, Bonnie Tyler (below, left), Trevor Rabin, Justin Hayward. Most of it is too "mainstream" for my liking, but few pieces are OK. DDNDSIFnUd4 pquNiICRyXM Regards
  15. I bet the Iranian can find an AK or an RPG-7 for much less than $10k! On the other hand, it will be practically impossible to hit one of the running Cheetah robots with an RPG and with the assault rifle you will take out maybe one or two, probably spending entire magazine, so the rest will get you while you are fumbling with the reload or trying to take out your side arm. Now imagine it will all be happening at dusk or at night. Not a pleasant situation to find yourself in... And probably no chance of distracting them by throwing them a piece of meat or a dead chicken or something (maybe a few AA batteries will work?) Regards
  16. Something like this? Regards
  17. Well, I really hate Steam for the insidious nature of its DRM. It provides apparent convenience which clouds the eyes of most users, so they forget that in return they hand out control over their games to Valve. Nothing on Steam can be done without asking Valve's permission first - to me, that's unacceptable. Steam-free mods I can download at my convenience, then install on any machine I want without begging Valve for consent. The machine does not even need to be online for me to do it. I am not trying to convince or convert anybody into my way of thinking (I know it is not going to happen - I will always be in a minority on that) - just explaining my reasoning behind my previous post... Regards
  18. Oh, cr*p... I just hope the team will keep Steam-free version available... Regards
  19. Looks like the US military is serious about this. 40gECrmuCaU They are going to test these machines in army field exercises starting from this December, according to Wired. The article is here Regards P.S. Now looks more like a cow to me...
  20. I don't believe it's true. Most if not all over-100s usually turn out to be fathers/mothers of substantial lineage of offspring. Raising a family can be stressful at times but it also has positive emotional effects (of course, not in the case of dysfunctional families). Regards
  21. According to that article only if they cut themselves in two every now and again. Regards
  22. I guess "dynamic" is the word... GL68VE-Qi7Y Regards
  23. OMG, watched "Battleship" this weekend. Plot: WTF? Score: FFS! Regards
