  1. ...Reprogramming commencing...
  2. Trying to fall asleep, but not succeeding.
  3. If it's not new, drop the rating by 1 level per 5 years... In other words, past about 15 years old, it's worthless against typical personal defense rounds. The same goes for any other soft armor and some ceramic plates. (though ceramic tends to bottom out at around level IIIa rating from what I can gather) New versions would be better protection. It depends on the rating of the vest though as to it's protection... I have found everything from rating I to rating IIIa available online without inserts. (with inserts it goes up to rating III, but never as high as IV) The protection rating levels: Level I = This armor would protect against 40-grain .22 Long Rifle Lead Round Nose (LR LRN) bullets at a velocity of 1080 ft/s ± 30 ft/s and 95-grain .380 ACP Full Metal Jacketed Round Nose (FMJ RN) bullets at a velocity of 1055 ft/s ± 30 ft/s. It is no longer part of the standard. Level IIa = New armor protects against 124-grain 9×19mm Parabellum Full Metal Jacketed Round Nose (FMJ-RN) bullets at a velocity of 1225 ft/s ± 30 ft/s; 180-grain .40 S&W Full Metal Jacketed (FMJ) bullets at a velocity of 1155 ft/s ± 30 ft/s and 230-grain .45 ACP Full Metal Jacketed (FMJ) bullets at a velocity of 900 ft/s ± 30 ft/s. Conditioned armor protects against 124-grain 9mm FMJ-RN bullets at a velocity of 1165 ft/s ± 30 ft/s; 180-grain .40 S&W FMJ bullets at a velocity of 1065 ft/s ± 30 ft/s and 230-grain .45 ACP Full Metal Jacketed (FMJ) bullets at a velocity of 850 ft/s ± 30 ft/s. Level II = New armor protects against 124-grain 9mm FMJ-RN bullets at a velocity of 1305 ft/s ± 30 ft/s and 158-grain .357 Magnum Jacketed Soft Point (JSP) bullets at a velocity of 1430 ft/s ± 30 ft/s. Conditioned armor protects against 124-grain 9mm FMJ-RN bullets at a velocity of 1245 ft/s ± 30 ft/s and 158-grain .357 Magnum JSP bullets at a velocity of 1340 ft/s ± 30 ft/s. Level IIIa = New armor protects against 125-grain .357 SIG FMJ Flat Nose (FN) bullets at a velocity of 1470 ft/s ± 30 ft/s and 240-grain .44 Magnum Semi Jacketed Hollow Point (SJHP) bullets at a velocity of 1430 ft/s ± 30 ft/s. Conditioned armor protects against 125-grain .357 SIG FMJ-FN bullets at a velocity of 1410 ft/s ± 30 ft/s and 240-grain .44 Magnum SJHP bullets at a velocity of 1340 ft/s ± 30 ft/s. !!!WILL NOT STOP A 5.7×28mm OR .22 TCM FMJ BULLET!!! Level III = Conditioned armor protects against 148-grain 7.62×51mm NATO M80 ball bullets at a velocity of 2780 ft/s ± 30 ft/s. (this is the typical steel plate armor that you see US armed forces wearing) Level IV = Conditioned armor protects against 166-grain .30-06 Springfield M2 armor-piercing (AP) bullets at a velocity of 2880 ft/s ± 30 ft/s. (ceramic coated steel plate usually falls in this category, and is what is usually used in bomb suits) Level V = CLASSIFIED (yes, there is a rating V, but I can't find any information on it other than 'classified'; I speculate it is something new designed to defeat a .50 BMG AP round) As always, all the impact force still transfers into the body, regardless of whether the armor stops it, so any round over 100-grain will likely knock the wind out of you if it's going around 1000-1200 fps and hitting soft armor. Hard armor will spread the impact more, and reduce the impact felt on one spot, but it still transfers all that energy into the body, and will still knock people down if they get a rapid onslaught of 3-5 9mm rounds.
  4. I made this thread as a place for asking and posting any and all interesting info about firearms and their ammunition. This is meant to get these kind of conversations out of other threads, and to give a centralized place for the people to converse about it. Nothing political should be in this thread, that should remain with the Gun Control thread. Legality questions are not inherently political in nature, so asking what's legal in a certain area is good for this thread. Experimentals are fine too, I love them myself. Just for reference, this is my personal gun, and a link to it's stats... *9-round magazine pictured* http://www.ruger.com/products/sr40c/specSheets/3476.html I am not an expert, but I love doing research into this subject, so I hope people will ask many questions. The only stupid question is the one you don't know and don't ask. (it's kinda stupid to ask questions you already know the answer to, unless you're confirming)
  5. A cricket outside my window.
  6. DE is legal to own and use... It only fires a .50 AE round, it won't get through class IIIa armor without custom ammo. The thing with comparing AP ammunition to the weapons capable of penetrating armor is that the rounds are always the deciding factor. Any high-velocity round will go through IIIa armor, this includes the standard rounds for every hunting rifle on the planet, (.22lr rifles are considered "varmint rifles" and are not in this category) and several handguns. AP ammunition is designed solely for military (usually handgun and super-heavy weapons) use to penetrate armor to kill a person, and is relatively useless for anything else. (and it has so much trouble killing with a single AP round through armor that it almost always requires multiple rounds) Many don't know this, but as long as you aren't in California, int the USA it's perfectly legal to own and shoot any firearm available, provided it does not have automatic or burst fire capability. (which for an AK-47 only requires a modification to one small part; costs less than $50 and 5 minutes to turn a civilian semi-auto into a military full-auto) There are certain limitations to the availability of sound suppressors, but only if you don't make them yourself. There is also an old law that many think is still in effect concerning the number of rounds allowed in a magazine, but right now magazine size is limited only in California. (10 rounds per magazine max, no limit elsewhere) California also requires a magazine release safety to be installed on guns, but nowhere else does. ** I like to do lots of research into firearms and ammunition, (I'm not an expert yet, but I'd like to be) so everyone ask me more questions concerning them. (Ask here: http://www.accursedfarms.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=5915)
  7. IIIa will protect against standard and +P (overpressure) rounds, but not the +P+ (over-overpressure) semi-AP rounds that are used in military applications now. AP type rounds in handguns are illegal for civilians to own, so their listing on a chart for body armor (the same stuff it's designed to go through) is rather pointless.
  8. Banned for not typing confusing repetitive words like I did.
  9. Dude... These goggles are like... Pot... Dude...
  10. Just something I thought I'd mention... EKhp4H3DUwE Don't ever let someone say that gaming has no effect on the real world... I've even heard (don't ask me from where, I can't tell you) that the US Air Force is looking at getting some of these for use with their next-gen hover drones...
  11. Nothing.

  13. I do take exception to everything but pizza... Why do you think I don't?
  14. Even in the US, fewer things occurring here right now that are helpful to humanity than harmful.
  15. I actually looked up the armor requirements for 9mm rounds, and for decent military grade 9mm rounds you would need class III armor to prevent penetration, but it would still knock the wind out of you, and 2-3 shots would definitely take you down. Class IV and V armor are only used for bomb suits and ultra-heavy assault armor, neither of which would be used by HECU forces. I know exactly how you feel, and I would purchase and ship one to you myself if I had the money to spare.
  16. The issue of NSA spying on regular citizens of the USA and of the government in general abusing it's power has been a topic seemingly forgotten by mass media, so I think it would be a good thing to discuss here. Anyone have any opinions on it? I do... I feel part of it is a reaction resulting from several unconnected events, and a general feeling of paranoia and xenophobia. A good example of the effect I'm referring to is shown in Star Trek TNG Season 4 Episode 21 "The Drumhead". http://www.cbs.com/shows/star_trek_the_next_generation/video/UA8jPY5VJ_vMN1UqoMQnQid8uUmg_jMt/star-trek-the-next-generation-the-drumhead I've seen a similar effect occurring in our judicial system in recent decades, and in digital media systems... DRM, treating people as criminals without proving guilt, and even sentencing people far past what their crimes deserve are all good examples. Someone who uses marijuana for occasional recreation getting 15 years in federal prison, someone downloading a few scientific articles gets 30-life, and someone tells us that the government is violating the constitution has to go on the run just to keep alive... (not just Snowden, who did resort to treason to get help releasing the information to the public, and to stay out of US government hands) In general I feel the US government has become corrupt, and is using it's power and fear to abuse it's citizens rights, and nobody seems to be taking it seriously.
  17. And yet we still get things like the "big crunch" theory being thrown around as an attempt to disprove God. (which interestingly enough is a being believed in by many of the greatest scientists in history)
  18. Not in this country...
  19. In its most general form, a nipple is a structure from which a fluid emanates. More specifically, it is the projection on the breasts or udder of a mammal by which breast milk is delivered to a mother's young. In this sense, it is often called a teat, especially when referring to non-humans, and the medical term used to refer to it is papilla. The rubber mouthpiece of a baby bottle or pacifier may also be referred to as a "nipple" or a "teat". In many cultures, female nipples are considered an erogenous zone and it is considered a public indecency to uncover them in public.
  20. Stopped me from having to post just how easy it was to get to the previous person's residence.
  21. Banned for denying that I denied denying it's denial of denying the denial.
  22. The breast is the upper ventral region of the torso of a primate, in left and right sides, containing the mammary gland which in a female can secrete milk used to feed infants. Both men and women develop breasts from the same embryological tissues. However, at puberty, female sex hormones, mainly estrogen, promote breast development which does not occur in men due to the higher amount of testosterone. As a result, women's breasts become far more prominent than those of men. During pregnancy, the breast is responsive to a complex interplay of hormones that cause tissue development and enlargement in order to produce milk. Three such hormones are estrogen, progesterone and prolactin, which cause glandular tissue in the breast and the uterus to change during the menstrual cycle. Each breast contains 15–20 lobes. The subcutaneous adipose tissue covering the lobes gives the breast its size and shape. Each lobe is composed of many lobules, at the end of which are sacs where milk is produced in response to hormonal signals.
  23. Starting season 3 of TNG, re-downloading VOY, occasionally drinking some 'Dr. Hy-Vee', waving my fully loaded gun around, (safety on of course) and maybe getting some rest.
