  1. Firstly, I need to admit - I like 3D, never had problems with headache because of it (and I do wear optical glasses) and would normally* try to watch 3D version of a movie in a cinema, if available. I would also love to see FM and/or CP in 3D but... It is completely impractical to expect Ross to reshoot all the footage used for any episode done to date, in fact, with CP it will be impossible to recreate the footage exactly, as (assuming Ross has preserved scripts and demos for each scene) they will still play differently in Source every time you try to run them (at least that was always my experience). All on-the-fly 2D to 3D conversions in software are invariably unwatchable (regardless of software used and the budget), so just converting old episodes in post-production is not an option either. Doing proper 3D in a game required processing of two camera angles at the same time (and I have no idea if Source is really able to do or if it can be done at the DirectX level) but that will mean the need for a bigger processing power. For scenes rendered with Source Recorder that also requires it to be able to do 2 angles at the same time - have no idea it that is possible. Now, to do a proper 3D and and maintain the same quality for 2D and archiving, the video must be side-by-side. Rendering to anaglyph is not reversible. That means either double the bandwidth for the same resolution or half the resolution for the same bandwidth. Finally - watching the results. As I said earlier, I love 3D movies. But only in cinema. Watching 3D on a TV screen (even on a good passive one) is just not the same. Besides, I feel ridiculous having to wear 3D glasses in my own home In addition, anaglyph on TV looks horrible anyway, so that option is out of the question too. So, when I do 3D stuff for myself I do cross-eyed side-by-sides, which I'm fine with but nobody else in my family can watch - basically, 3D technology is not at the point when it is practically useful for home watching. Regards *) Bootnote: "Normally" only applies to films natively shot in 3D. I will never ever watch a post-production converted 3D movie - it is just crap every time.
  2. I've been encoding the episodes to MPEG2 for DVD authoring. It would be really easy to combine the episodes and use cell VM commands to allow the choice of uninterrupted playback or playing 1 episode at a time. It would take a couple of DVD9s though as I was encoding them at 5000kbps. If Ross were interested I could do it an send the discs to him to decide what to do with them... Regards
  3. If you feel like tinkering with the mic here is a good explanation of PC mic connection basics: http://www.hobby-hour.com/electronics/computer_microphone.php Regards
  4. OK, let's go though it again: Possible explanations: 1 - new mic has low dynamic range and low output signal or low frequency range 2 - software settings changed parameters of the mic pre-amp stage on your sound card Trouble shooting: If 2 is eliminated (as you did after my first post) that leaves only 1. Solutions to 1: a - break the new mic in two, throw it in the bin, buy a new one (somehow I thought this solution would not have been appreciated, so I didn't mention it) b - try to change the only thing that can be changed in the hope that it will make it better - which is what I recommended. Now, you are right, there is no scientific method involved here (because it is not a scientific situation) but it is a reasonable engineering approach. I may not work as a scientist or even as engineer now but once an engineer always an engineer and no one can take my engineering degree away. Regards
  5. In that case I would try to check what mic settings are available in your soundcard software or if there isn't any specific software then try adjusting generic Windows mic settings: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935309 Regards P.S. If you use XP it's more or less the same but to get to the mic gain boost you need to enable Advanced controls in recording options first...

  7. That sounds like dynamic range control shenanigans (aka "normalisation") and it's most likely done in software, so I would recommend to dig around in settings of whatever software that came with the mic. Regards
  8. They have reached their target on Kickstarter yesterday, it seems. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-18768907 Regards
  9. I don't know about cannabis. When I quit smoking the first week I was restless, irritated by minor things, snapping at people and drinking lots of coffee. Also, kind of excited and puzzled that I could be such an idiot as to voluntarily go through anything like that... By the end of the first month I grew used to the new situation and cravings, while never disappearing, were becoming easier to ignore. Month 2 - I thought I was out of the woods then - back to normal self and no problems. Month 3 - back to cravings again. Worse than month 1 except for the first week. I had dreams of me smoking, was waking up in sweat thinking that I've failed, before realising that it was just a dream. After month 3 that was it - no problems ever since. That seems to be the pattern with other people as well - few of my colleagues tried to stop smoking at about the same time. They've all thought they've done it after 3 months, all failed during month 3. Regards
  10. I'd say - stay away from drugs, weed including. There's plenty of other pleasant stuff around to not bother with that crap. Wine, beer, spirits - as long as you learn to enjoy the taste and not just drink to get plastered. If you want to smoke - smoke tobacco. Regards
  11. But how likely are we to find aliens who would be attracted to us? Jokes aside, there are many aspects to sex life. Procreation is just one of them, but for humans sex plays important social role as well. We are not (largely) having sex with other species on Earth because, among other things, there are no other known sentient species here, so the social factor does not come into play. If we meet a sentient alien species and they turn out to be remotely anthropomorphic and display any behaviour that humans can categorise as gender-specific, I can assure you there will be love Regards

  14. People want to believe in things like that because if the EOTW™ does happen that will mean you don't have to go to work, write that report for your boss, pay your mortgage, speak to your in-laws, think about where to get the money to pay the bills and worry about the pension anymore. Ok, you will die but so will everybody else and it's not going to be your fault! Regards

  20. Isn't that how it's always done? Regards
  21. Well, it has begun... Regards P.S. BTW, the image above is linked to the movie page on Vimeo.
  22. Arstechnica article here Apparently, directly supported by Valve who licensed the updated Source engine and provided the producers with additional animation and cinematic tools. If only GabeN & Co. did provide the same stuff to Ross! Teaser trailer here. Regards
