Depends on who you ask. Some say it is, others say it isn't. I'd say it's just as much a sexual orientation as homosexual or bisexual, but at the same time, it's not quite the same as asking if Atheism is a religion. I think asexuality can be more easily described as a lack of sexuality rather than a sexual orientation itself.

And even that problem isn't all that big these days, at least compared to even 2 years ago. Linux's biggest hindrance is its gaming library, but soon even that won't be that bad.

Well, of course, what else are toolbars for except seeing a blurry replica of your wallpaper? Shit gets scary when I can't see the button half inch of my desktop. What most people don't realize is that there's a scary .png of Balmer's face behind the XP toolbars... Anyway, scary, balding-men aside, I'm addicted to virtual box lately and have been playing around with Linux distros. I've actually taken a liking to Ubuntu's Unity interface, which would surprise people who know me. Although, Mint's interface is decent, too, more like what most Windows-natives are used to.

My handwriting has always looked like shite. I really stopped writing things by hand in high school when teachers demanded our papers be typed and printed vs handwritten, so I'm not that concerned about it. Also, flat chests have their place in the world, too... being in between is really the worst place to be...

If you haven't already purchased the Zalman fan, be sure to check the model # to make sure you either get a fan with no LED color, or one with a color that would match your desired scheme. AFAIK, they have red, blue, and no LED models of the Zalman mentioned above.

I'd recommend MGS4 but that's the kind of game you'd really need to play the other games in the series to understand. I was thinking about that already, but that is the thing, I never played a single Metal Gear Solid game. But I guess there are other alternatives. Eh, MGS4 was the first MGS game I ever played and, to me anyway, it makes no more sense after having played the three before it. The story still has problems even with knowledge of the other MGS plots, but you catch on to the references made to past games more easily. Plus, there's the MGS HD collection you can get if you want to play 2 and 3, the other is available as a PSN download, or you could find the PS1/PS2 version of it from the old MGS trilogy released many years back... Anyway, you should also give the God of War, Infamous, Ratchet and Clank, and Uncharted games a chance. Those are the only PS3 exclusive games I bothered with when I was on my PS3 kick.

is this PSU powerful enough for this setup
Obsidian replied to \\Vincent Vega's topic in Computer Hardware
Firstly, you'll probably want to use the PSU wattage calculator on Newegg to help you better determine how much your system needs to function. This will allow you to better account for your system. When I punched in what you've listed here, Newegg gave me a wattage of 959, however Newegg doesn't allow for adding expansion cards, so your mileage may vary. If you can, I'd see how much power your PCI cards and USB devices would add to the system, assuming they're all plugged in all at once, and add that to whatever you get from Newegg's calculator. 1000w might be enough, or it may be barely enough. Personally, I'd probably elect for a 1050w PSU myself for that setup. -
Next time your director says that, tell him there are kids in Africa that don't have the instruments you use. By that logic, he shouldn't let you practice at all. Sounds like he was just being a dick.

Not miraculously but for the same reason black boxes survive on planes. The Hard Drive is usually the last thing that goes on a computer, it's name doesn't lie, it is "hard",the worst problem a Hard Drive can give is usually the infamous blue screen. Black boxes on air planes don't use hard disk drives, though... And, while I've never had a problem with them, hard drives are susceptible to damage through drops of small distances when not in an case of some kind. Even in a case, they aren't always fully protected.

Meh, I played this game and didn't find it scary. I had the same reaction with Amnesia, except I felt motivated to see Amnesia through the end because the story and puzzles were interesting enough.

Just get lighted case fans, they are easier to mount and usually the same price as dedicated internal lighting. Other than that, I don't suggest you install internal lighting yourself. (it's usually a pain) +1 for good lighted case fans. However, I feel the need to mention Bitfenix's Alchemy LED lighting strips for computer cases. These are in no way difficult to install and I can see similar products putting cathode lighting down for the count.

I just went through a box of old electronic boards I used to use as decoration back when I cared about hanging stuff on my wall, and found an old old old Visontek ATi x1950 256mb and a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2. Funny enough, even after being out of use and in a box for several years, both cards worked when I plugged them in LOL.

If you go with a Zalman, I'd be very careful, since I've known plenty of people who have cut themselves on the fins before... Other than that hazard, they're great coolers
-
I've heard a lot about them, but have never used one. (I usually only recommend cooling solutions I've personally tested) No worries, that's what I'm here for. I've installed a few of them with friends before, as the NH-D14 is one of the few coolers I know that you may want assistance with because of its size, and we've achieved some pretty high overlocks with AMD and Intel CPUs while staying within a comfortable temperature range.

WARNING ABOUT POISONOUS DOG FOOD!
Obsidian replied to HLPrincess's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
I've never heard of that brand of dog food before, and if my pooch were still wagging and walking, I'd be a bit more concerned. Still, I'm not surprised that stuff from China still fails quality checks as frequently as it does... -
I'm also going to add the Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler to BTG's "spend a bit more for a better cooler" list, as it's arguably one of the best air coolers on the market today. I'd also recommend looking at videos and manuals regarding the application of thermal paste so you'll get the best performance from your cooler. Note that there are some "methods" of application that work better on other CPUs, but it's mostly the same these days, especially for the consumer intel chips.

Im using the stock fan (i5-2500k) my case is: Cooler Master Silencio 550. Ill open up my case and see whats up.. Im not gonna overclock very much, so I dont know if Ill need to get the MSI cards. What cooler does gigabyte cards use ? Also, how does one change the fans on the cpu ? Would the Cooler Master Hyper 412S be a good cpu fan ? Edit: CPU has been at around 80 celsius for a few hours now, nothing special has happened. (no freezing or anything) The cores are around 37c, so I dont know what the hell is going on... If you already haven't, I'd look into getting a second fan for the front of your case to help draw more air in, if not replacing the existing one as well with a fan that can move more air. Also, if you're not using both hard drive cages, I'd remove the top one to clear up additional obstructions to airflow. The voltage tweaks you can do with MSi cards are for extreme overclocks, so you don't need that feature for slight overclocks. The coolers on MSi cards are somewhat similar to the ones on the Asus, so I wouldn't worry about the differences either. Gigabyte cards also use similar designs, although some of their cards use three fans instead of the normal 2, their 7850 uses two fans that are slightly oversized for the PCB. But the temperature difference here, in my opinion, isn't large enough to fret over. For more info on 7850's, check out this link: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5705/amd-radeon-hd-7850-launch-recap . The prices are a bit dated, but the other info there is accurate. That CPU cooler would do just fine compared to others in its class and around its price point. I'm not sure why you'd be getting that high reading for your CPU temperature, though. Maybe that reading is for the CPU cooler and not the actual chip? I know some software also reports temperatures based on readings it gets from the CPU fan itself, which should run warmer than the CPU. As for installing the unit itself, google some tutorials. There are plenty out there for most aftermarket CPU coolers.
-
If you're using a stock fan (the ones that come with the CPU), that's probably why your CPU temps are high. What kind of case/airflow are you working with? Limited airflow to that part of the motherboard may also be influencing those oddly higher temps. For the most part, the DirectCUII should be enough for modest overclocking. There are some MSi cards that let you overclock further because of voltage tweaks, and I'm pretty sure BTGBullseye would recommend Gigabyte cards for their coolers (he usually does after I mention MSi cards). All in all, from the benchmarks I've seen, the DirectCUII cards tend to be higher up on the list of lower temps when under load.
-
When overclocking in general, you want to overclock in small increments, test the overclock by running a utility of sort for a bit to test stability and temps, then either repeating the process, stopping, or stepping down a bit on the current overclock. Some tools I use for testing a GPU overclock: 3D Mark 11 Heaven Benchmark Furmark Of course, there are others, so feel free to do some searching of your own. Also, is the Asus card you bought one of those with the two fans, the Direct CUII? If so, I wouldn't worry about replacing the cooling system on it since you can get a modest overclock with the stock cooler there. The ones I'd avoid or replace (avoid being the preference, never been a fan of replacing GPU coolers) would be the ones with the single fan on the opposite end of the I/O shield, since those tend to run hotter than the rest, even on stock settings.

Apple vs. Samsung, and other pointless legal battles...
Obsidian replied to BTGBullseye's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
Too bad that's just how the random jury selection process went. I would hope that those jurors didn't vote based on what they own, since they should've mentioned a bias before the trial even started so that another juror could be fill the spot. Either way, it doesn't change the final outcome of the trial. A video interview with the jury foreman, if anyone's interested: http://www.bloomberg.com/video/apple-jury-foreman-here-s-how-we-reached-a-verdict-RqtqHC25QbOBFg7xrWa5Wg.html -
I saw it, own it, think it's a good story for what it is. It's one of those movies that doesn't add anything to the main story, which I like. That means we could possibly see other movies like this that loosely tie into the Brotherhood series without interfering with the original plot.

I think if you admit to watching the first 3 star wars films (those being episodes 1-3, not the first ones to be released), you automatically get banned from Nerdom... for life!

Don't worty, I'm sure you'll find out, since you are currently on the internet pretending to be superior. What does it mean to worty? I'm not familiar with that term... I won't worty, since I know this statement is from someone who doesn't know me in real life and, in the event that this person did know me in real life, would be so blinded by their own disbelief to see the truth before their eyes. By the way, all that I described was a sense of self-control, not superiority. If you chose to interpret that single statement in such a way, that's your issue, not mine.

Apple vs. Samsung, and other pointless legal battles...
Obsidian replied to BTGBullseye's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
And Apple won, but I don't think this is entirely over since Samsung is seeking an overturn on the decision. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/24/apple-vs-samsung-verdict_n_1829119.html -
No, since you're a PC gamer, you should pirate it, because Ubisoft says most of us are pirates! That's how this works, right?
