ROSS'S GAME DUNGEON: ARMED & DELIRIOUS
ScumCoder replied to Ross Scott's topic in Ross's Game Dungeon
I think it's the minority of people who will really enjoy this one Well, I, for one, can't say that I loved this episode. On the contrary. I think I will even go as far as to say that I was disgusted. The worst thing is that it's obvious just how much work Ross dumped into this. The jokes are clever, the sound editing is perfect, the research is thorough. But the game itself just feels... filthy. I haven't played it, but just watching this video was enough for me to . Also, the fact that it was developed by a Jewish studio is not helping me to keep my inner antisemite down. -
ROSS'S GAME DUNGEON: ARMED & DELIRIOUS

I second this. Judging by some things Ross said in the past, I think that he vastly underestimates the attention span of his fans. Remember how he made a pause in the middle of "Top 25 Most Anticipated Games" video, which was less than half of an hour long? -
Ross said the game's title starts with an 'A'.

Kleiner, inviting a brain-raping alien facehugger to jump on his head: - Here, my pet. Hop up! Freeman (compassionately): - The years have not been kind, huh? Well if there is one thing the years have been kind to, it is Ross's sense of humor. This was always kept ambiguous since the very first episode, and I think deliberately. - sometimes Freeman pretends to yell someone in the face (or just say something rude), but the person is not offended; then Freeman says something that implies that he was actually yelling in his mind in order to not upset relations with this person; - sometimes it's like the above, but the person suddenly reacts and Freeman is like “Whoops, did I say it out loud?”; - sometimes he says something and the person reacts, and Freeman expects it (so in this case he was just talking normally). In general, you can never be sure when Freeman is thinking or speaking. There was no indication that Freeman was thinking anything like that. He was genuinely glad when her teleportation went normally.

I second this.

Personally, I would LOVE to try the Assault mode. I remember that sometimes it used to be even more interesting and fun than Onslaught. I think that some huge map like AS-Mothership would be an awesome place for two giant crowds of players. I already suggested this to Ross during his last chat but he skipped my question, so I guess he's not interested.

ROSS'S GAME DUNGEON: FOLLOW-UP EPISODE #2

Two posts above yours?.. -
You are operating under the assumption that people who begged you to continue Freeman's Mind into Half-Life 2 are the same people who brought you the bulk of the donation money, which is not necessarily correct. It is entirely possible that all those 0.5M viewers who watched the first episode of FM2 actually brought you about 5-7% of all the money you got. I, for one, became much more interested in Game Dungeon than in FM pretty much since the 2nd or 3rd episode of the former (despite coming to know you because of the latter). That was what, about 3.5 years ago? FM was at its prime back then. Even then I already knew that FM is your least favorite project that you started only to fill the gaps between the CP episodes with something easier to make (oh the irony). So when you asked for help, I eagerly supported you because of your GD episodes first and foremost, because compared to FM they felt like something you actually enjoyed to do. I am sure that I am not alone with these thoughts of mine. The thing is, I tend to believe that your audience consists of two distinct groups: hundreds of thousands of people who don't care about anything except Freeman's Mind - those are the same kind of audience that most YouTubers have (like PewDiePie); and a very small, but utterly devoted group of people who is interested in you as a creator, above all else. These are the people who eagerly watch your Twitch chats, beg you to play multiplayer games with them, who print tokens from old arcade games on a 3D printer for you... And also bring you the vast majority of your donations. Of course it's your call which group you are going to target. I just thought that after you said about becoming practically independent from YouTube income, you will finally be able to focus on projects that you wish to do, instead of returning to that monotonous grind that FM is.

ROSS'S GAME DUNGEON: FOLLOW-UP EPISODE #2
ScumCoder replied to Ross Scott's topic in Ross's Game Dungeon
Wow, another Windows game that runs on Linux better than on Windows. (The previous one that I've seen was Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine; I've sent you its footage for your Twitch chats but looks like you weren't interested). -
As a software developer who misses his deadlines all the time, I would recommend the following strategy: 1) Estimate the amount of time that you will need to finish the task 2) Multiply it by two 3) Tell the result to the customer. It's better to be known as someone who always works ahead of time than someone who claims to do the job quickly only to fall behind. P.S. this strategy does not work if you are an incurable procrastinator, because in this case you will always start working one day before the deadline no matter how much time you had. But AFAIK this does not apply to Ross.

Just like the previous time, using EST instead of EDT (which is currently in use) is asking for trouble. IMHO the best way to ensure that there will be no misunderstanding among your worldwide fanbase is to always announce time in UTC. As far as I understand, in this current case "2PM EST" means 18:00 UTC, even though I may be mistaken.

Last time you listened to the majority, we had a RotMG play session...
-
I fully agree. I was genuinely upset when Ross announced that he is targeting 1-ep-per-mo schedule of releasing FM2. Not only will this delay The Movie EVEN MORE, but it will mean much less GD as well.
-
You are repeating the usual mistake that's common to people who don't know Ross. For him creating videos that he wants to create is a goal in and of itself. It's not about money. It doesn't matter that Freeman's Mind gets N percent more views per episode if making this episode requires him strain his sense of humour trying to think of something funny, and leaves him creatively exhausted.
-
I don't have ADHD and I would LOVE to see an hour-length GD, especially about a game that you consider special.

was one of the most embarrassing encounters I ever had in UT2004. I mean for fuck's sake, there were TWO of us there against Ross. And he didn't fire a single shot at us, just obliterated our node and then built his own instead, like we weren't even there. (Although I do suspect that the other guy had problems with connection, seeing how he just stopped moving and let Ross blow him to pieces with a jackhammer). Also, "Creamy Stalin" is probably the funniest nickname I've ever seen. Another noteworthy episodes:
-
Just tried it and it works OK. Too bad I had to fight with bots. Let's schedule a "rehearsal" play session maybe?
-
This sucks. I will go in a business trip on Feb. 23rd and hence won't be around a UT2004-capable PC on 25th. That's ironic that this will be the first of Ross's gaming sessions that I'll miss, since I'm probably the most UT-obsessed maniac out of all Ross's fans. Oh well, at least I hope that won't be the first and last UT session.
-
It has to do with the irregular GD posts. Actually it's just Google changing the YouTube's view calculation algorithm. It's been observed several times how the reported amount of views sometimes decreases (!), sometimes is lower than the sum of upvotes and downvotes (!), and other similar shenanigans.
-
Can someone tell me what movie chunk was from? (Yes I know that the movies were listed in the credits, but there are 5 of them and shamefully I didn't watch either one). I'm kinda missing the joke here.
-
Ross, I think it would be a good idea to start doing monthly Twitch sessions akin to the Supreme Commander birthday. It will take almost no time, and three appearances a month (videochat + playing with fans + just playing something you really like) will be enough entertainment to allow you to go for months without publishing actual videos like GD.
-
Sounds great. I fully agree.
-
I prefer UT99 as well (in fact I still haven't seen any multiplayer FPS game that even comes close in terms of atmosphere, dynamic gameplay, sense of drive etc. - maybe aside from Quake 3, but IMHO UT99 wins this battle because of its great music, beautiful art design, and well thought-out weapons). I almost didn't play UT2003 at all, because it didn't bring anything new and just felt like an inferior copy of UT99. But the Onslaught mode of 2004 is really something else. It's just so well designed, well balanced, and fun to play that it's dangerous. Ross once said that he dumped more hours into UT2004 Onslaught than in any other game and it may have altered his life, and I can say the same about myself.
-
Okay guys, I think I found the reason why we had to play this crap yesterday. Apparently someone posted this agitprop on the RotMG section of Reddit, which promptly caused a stream of RotMG fanboys running to /r/accursedfarms and overwhelming the vote in their favor. I'm pretty sure that 95% of people who voted for this poor man's MMO didn't even attend the Ross's game session. Democracy at its finest.
-
Okay, I've played this game for a couple of hours and I must say that I'm NOT impressed. I have no frigging idea why it got the most votes on Reddit. Maybe playing along with Ross will add some fun.
