Just checked out UE4, looks like crap to be honest, maybe it'll look better in motion but CryEngine 3 looks leaps and bounds ahead.

CryEngine always does, for some reason. But CryEngine isn't exactly aimed at regular consumers.

but UE4 doesn't even look that much better than UE3. The only advantage is more particle effects, which is obviously going to be as overused as brown 'n bloom when AAA studios get their hands on it.

No it won't because the AAA titles are made for console which still have 7 year old hardware and the "next generation" will probably have 3year old hardware still.
