J.C....you know that's a text-book example of the Golden Mean Fallacy? Just sayin'... Perhaps As you said, this is a far from perfect world Dealing in complete absolutes, however, is also a text-book example of another fallacy. Name it for rep points

Are you "koach", from the old posts? If so, why are you know koach2? Anyway, wellcome That makes two of us. Weren't you a vampire?

Oh, I'm sure BTGbullseye was just kdding. By that standard, my man Bjossi was inciting mass suicide... This is a very controversial topic. Heated arguments will ensue. On a more serious note, if you want my opinion... well, I don't deal in absolutes. Absolutes breed Extremism, Extremism usually end up with a bunch of dead people. I once saw a very graphic video of a sonogram of an abortion. The unborn ferus screamed as it was being ripped apart... I just can't forget those images. I think EnviMea's original post is as good as it gets.

Malthusian. Among other things. I elaborated more here viewtopic.php?p=54548#p54548

If you go by his arguments (Archer's I mean), that's the natural conclusion. But as I said a couple of posts up, thinking in absolutes, does not work well in a far from perfect word
-
NO Careful. It's going to come looking for you...

Exactly. That's why, while I do believe in capitalism, and the fact that individual rights should be respected and upheld, the world is far from perfect. The problem with most of the arguments you've used in the past posts is the "absolute" quality of them. Asymptotic analysis, to give it a name, does not play well with a far from perfect world. Only if you think in absolutes. But as you said, this is a far from perfect world, so you can't oversimplify like this. Who told you that? The existence of successful communities is not based on rights, but in achieving balance with their enviroment and amongst themselves. This, in turn, leads to individual rights, goverment, rational use of natural resources, etc. You should look up the principles of game theory. It might help you see why absolutes don't really apply in a far from perfect world.

Well, human beings are defined by adversity. It's the struggle, the overcoming of obstacles, that give people's lives meaning (if you don't believe me, see what happens to those who "have everything"). Joy is defined by sorrow, companionship by loneliness. In that sense, we'll always try to frame our existence, because our life works that way: what has a beginning, must have an ending (that sounded like a quote from "The Matrix Revolutions", but it's true). This is why doomsday scenarios are so popular and mesmerizing. An absolute end: quite a powerful idea (like all absolutes: God, Creationism, Heaven and Hell). Personally, I don't believe the end will come from a prophecy or something written in a book (although I never claim absolute certainty: it IS possible - however extremely unlikely - that the end could be right around the corner, let's say on 21-12-2012). Barring some natural Extinction Level Event, like an asteroid impact, gamma ray burst or something like that, the only danger is humanity itself: we've come VERY close to nuclear war a few times already, growing population and limited resources are a bad combination, genetically engineered super diseases could wipe us all out, etc. All systems (and our civilization is not the exception) have the capacity for adaptation in adverse circumstances. The problem is what happens past that recovery or adaptation threshold: the system could partially crash, finding in time a new stable point (in which case at least some of us could have a chance of survival) or it could experience cataclysmic failure, leading to its destruction and the end of every human life on this planet. It's a grim outlook, but unless some miraculous inventions are made in the near future, I believe we are in for some very dark decades.

I saw the just this morning, where the president of gearbox announces the delay. This is a compendium of my reactions. ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

Well, the user reviews are not so bad (6.5 out of 10). "Do yourself a favor and ignore the critics on this one. It's a flawed, but very fun and very awesome ride. It's probably the only case I can think of when saying that a movie reminds me of a video game is actually a complement. For sure, it's a "check your brain at the door" kind of flick, but I don't think they could have found more ways to pack what is obviously the nerdy dreams of Zack Snyder (and, by extension, every nerd) into one movie. It's all very silly, and Snyder needs to work on writing better dialogue, but it definitely exceeded my (somewhat tailored thanks to the critics) expectations" So I think I'm going to go ahead and watch it next week, when it's released here. I don't expect a masterpiece, but I'm sure the visuals are going to be spectacular. EDIT: I just saw the ranking of new movies on that site. "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never" has a rating of 52 out of 100 based on the critics reviews. I mean... WTF?

I think so. You might want to check the maximum number of peers / connections in the settings of your torrent program.
-
Woke up this morning and started uTorrent (last night there was not a single person downloading, so I turned my pc off). I have now 7 (18) peers and been seeding at over 100 KB/s steadily for half and hour And guys, Bjossi is right. All of the files are the originals. There are no unauthorized sources. I downloaded all of them from the original blogspot site and form the post Ross made for "The Tunnel" and the torrent recognized them immediately.
-
Well, I'm seeding 100% of the files (I already had the episodes, so I didn't require any download time), but there seems to be no one downloading it

I certainly hope so. Haven't gotten the infamous screen yet. Edit: Nevermind. Got the screen again. Problem not fixed. My old password is still operational, I've not performed a password recovery, so I guess that change Jexius mentions in the Notice he posted is not yet implemented. Totally didn't notice this question. I'm a Moderator not an Administrator, and the job's fine, I'm here because I want to help keep things running smooth. And because I love Ross Scott's videos of course. And it's very much appreciated. Maybe you could persuade Ross to implement the Accursed Donation System soon. That way, the rest of us could also help.

Lucifer? Is that you?

I just came home a few minutes ago, from a U2 concert (opening act was MUSE). It was AWESOME. Money well spent.

That looks awesome

Do I know you? Indeed. We've met before. http://www.accursedfarms.com/freeman%e2%80%99s-mind-episode-31/

Last night I dreamed I was in the back seat of a car going very fast along a coastal highway in Uruguay (don't ask me how, but I knew it was there). We almost crashed several times, so I hid under a blanket and watched as the car kept going faster and faster. I'm not sure if it means anything
-
Ugh. This is not fair. I've lost connection twice while trying to download the original file and you've already downloaded it and re-encoded it

He, He. Nice. + Rep. I would only add a crowbar and ambassador pineapple hanging from his belt.

I'm watching "Children of the Corn" on TV... but it seems to be a remake... weird

Am I the only one who wants an updated chart?
J.C. replied to GameGodOfAll's topic in Misc. AF stuff
Well, we do have that image Otto posted a while ago... I can't find his original post, so I'll upload it again and post the link (it's rather heavy to embed it)... here it is http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv24/blog_jc/Animated%20GIFs/progress30.gif It's a thing of beauty -
Nice to hear from you Ross. I'm glad everything worked out well. I just have one complaint: you don't mention the Donation System C'mon. Work with us. Picture the money pouring from the net. Go with it. Feel the flow. Nice and warm. It's all good. Yeah.

The Tunnel Discussion Thread [CAUTION: Spoilers!]
J.C. replied to doomplayer's topic in Civil Protection
Watch it from about 1:40 to 1:44. Oh... Yeah, the car (I'm guessing it's the same as the one on The Tunnel) hits a guy near the corner of the street... you know, you may be on to something, good eye there!
