Blast Pit is significantly larger. I didn't really see any resemblance when I played it. Xen is the "Crossroads" of the universe nothing there is native to it. The vorts are a race that fleed there from the combine, the big boss at the end of hl1 is the the leader of the vorts(at that point) and controls they telepathically. It is likely that the aliens that act like soldiers(guys with hornet guns and vorts for example) are controlled by the Ninlth(however it is spelled)where as the headcrabs, hound eyes and stalks would fall under the term 'wild-life'. The Big Momma is a mother of headcrabs yes, it is likely that any headcrab that is feed enough or lives long enough on a host becomes that. Any thing they could like vorts(fairly obvious). Some other headed alien. Remember they also like fruit (Dr. Kleiner's Lamarr loves watermelons) so they could feed from round things... not only human heads that turn into zombies

I've been thinking about the possobility that they jump off to HL3 inmediately, being the story that Gordon and Alyx never went to the borealis and stayed in White Forest (Hell, i couldnt travel if my dad had just died like that, not even in the apocalyptic future). So maybe we're 5 years after EP2, gordon and alyx are still fighting the combine, Alyx takes Eli's place and doesnt get in the battlefield so often. Something new has to appear, if not EP3 woulf be like EP1, just you with the rebels on the city...(or the forest) fighting combine...
