As it turns out I was turned down with my letter of intent based upon the scope of the project being too large. I am rewriting it and the focus will remain on internet/gaming culture. The main concern was the time it would take me to create and entire functioning website in addition to the research. So instead I will use a prefabricated website model and archive data on that. If you have any suggestions as to what sources to use and what hosting to use that would be most helpful. keep in mind I have zero (monetary) sponsorship for this (that's why my request to make a site was turned down) and I have little personal capital to begin with.

Wow, that's interesting. I didn't actually know about that. Another thing that Obama recently did that pisses me off is that he lowered the minimum weekly hour rate for a job to be considered "full time" from 40 hours a week to 30 hours a week. That is fucking stupid, mainly because the number of people it will actually benefit is drastically smaller than the number of people it will cause problems for. The reason Obama did it is because now with Obamacare or whatever, all full time employees are required to be given company-funded healthcare. If the hour requirement for being a full-time employee is lowered like this, a massive number of part-time employees will now be considered full-time, and the company they work for is now required by law to give them free healthcare. The immediate problem is that many companies can't afford to give healthcare to so many extra employees; the result being them having to lay people off. Companies laying people off obviously causes the number of unemployed citizens to go up drastically, and therefore Obama has just ruined anything he might have possibly improved with the unemployment problem. Another big issue will be for younger teenage employees. In many states, citizens under the age of 18 are not legally allowed to work full-time jobs, and are required to stick with part-time employment. The problem? Now that the number of hours required to be considered working "full-time" has been lowered, teenage employees who were trying to work the maximum number of hours they could work legally (like myself)...ARE ALL OUT OF A JOB IF THEY DON'T WORK LESS. It's just retarded to the point of infuriation. [/rant] well I did not know about this. makes me sort of glad I cant vote yet (not really). as for the abortion subject, I did not know it was forcibly happening. its just as wrong to force an abortion procedure on an unwilling performer as to not allow one for those who need it. I understand that catholic hospital don't approve of abortion and forcing them to perform them is wrong, that's something we could use abortion clinics and similar facilities for. also Obama sort of screwed me as it goes for insurance, I have USAA and the policies now make me have to pay for my crazy pills (which are around 25$-50$ a pill depending on the time of year) so yeah I also lose insurance unless I find a college or join the military (which for someone who is 6ft3' and 90 lbs is not a real option).

Yeah, games can be great therapy in tough times. ah all too true I notice that my crazy meds actually do less for me than playing games. Specifically after a traumatic brain injury I sustained (faceplanting into ice at 60 mph kinda does that, cracked helmet cracked skull etc.. bad times) my world was upside down. I could not write, read, or remember most of that year (still don't) or much before that and crippling headaches. Video games managed to motivate me to keep going and even fixed my hand-eye coordination in the process. plus in school since ive started playing games heavily my grades have been improving and my depression is all but gone. pills may have helped but Microsoft and Valve helped even more.

Update: the project is slowly moving but it is progressing. My letter of intent is nearly ready to be sent in for approval. so as for how this is going to work; I am conducting this poll on many sites both large and small. I will be creating a website as well as part of this project mainly as a place to archive all by interview data and poll statistics (this is meant to be shown as the final "product" and display the learning curve I take). The site will also have open forums based upon the project. In addition to polls and online interviews I will be surveying and interviewing people at random in the real world. Hopefully I can be taken seriously enough to get decent results from this. As always I will post more info when it becomes available. the project will be available in its entirety when its finished and I plan to regularly upload and post data as things progress. On a final note this project is only possible with participation so if you find the time, any data is valuable and I will try to find some way to thank those who help. I plan to be open on this project so I will read any feedback I receive.

Halo, Half Life, Left 4 Dead, EVE, Portal, and most every game by Bioware, Bungie, Valve, and Bethesda. Plus many more I cant think of! To chose just one I must say Halo 2 purely because it got me through several years of my life with my sanity mostly intact.

well the government and the church should be separate right? or am I just a silly naive child wishing for archaic ideals that the US supposedly prides itself on. I say voting one way or another has no problem with your religion, if things go liberal then you can live your own conservative life and not worry about everyone else. I see gay marriage the same way, why is it wrong a let a gay couple marry? its an affront to god? well they burn in hell and you don't so whoop-de-fricken-doo.

thanks for your interest. I will make sure to send a pm or email your way when I get my project approved

Hello my name is Andrew Shields and I am soon going to begin conducting interviews and taking polls for my upcoming research paper. I will be examining the aspects of internet communities and the social interactions therein. I will not be able to conduct these polls until my letter of intent is approved. I chose the accursed-farms site as one of my samples due to the professional and friendly environment it presents. please leave me a reply here or email me at or if you are interested. for the most part I will wish to conduct these interview via webcam or voice chat. although im not picky so irc or emails work just as well. This project is for no monetary gain on my part and will follow strict confidentiality guidelines. This paper is for my senior project and is something I am deeply interested in. I am hoping to show in this article that usage of the internet and gaming are not socially isolating as some claim, but are merely different ways to communicate and interact with others. Your names will not be disclosed if you prefer. And whatever you say will be what is shown (as in i wont say you all love porn just because one person made a comment to that effect). If you made it this far down good for you and thanks for taking this seriously.

I never have to worry about my self in this aspect thanks to my body rejecting alcohol. when alcohol gets in my system I sort of get an allergic reaction. I always end up being the designated driver due to this and often the one guy with the judgement to cut off his buddys who are getting smashed. his subject is strange here cause this is one of the only places where you an legally make moonshine and booze is dirt cheap and everywhere. last year a kid in my finances class pulled out a bottle of booze and downed it before a test... unfortunately the teacher was watching.

ha well lets just say that thanks to my parents believing that video games would make me a raging psychopath (although I was crazy nonetheless and I have pills for that) , every game I ever played (until I turned 15) was at least 10 or more years old and played on school computers I spent lots of time in my typing class playing doom.

I live in Colorado and marijuana is technically legal here (not legal but not quite illegal)(federal cops can bust you for it but state and local cannot) and I see it flipping everywhere. More students at my school smoke weed than cigarettes. About half get it from dispensarys and half get it in the school parking lot during class. I literally look out the window during my stat class, see a car pull up, 10 or so people walk up to it things are exchanged and people head back to class. In class someone always walks in 10 minutes late smelling so badly of weed my eyes water. and the tobacco problem is nothing compared. I see what it does and I just have to say that unless you have a reason for it you shouldn't be taking it (not on a supervisory level but a personal level). I still believe in legalizing it and controlling it because if this was legal it would be harder to get at. and yes weed can be a food additive, but I don't know a single case at my school where they don't smoke it.

i tried to wait on the ladders and got murdered in a graphic fashion. (my character got stuck to the tentacle and got smashed/phased through the ceiling until I exploded in a meaty gore shower)

I got started with the original mario on the NES thanks to my inheritance of older siblings consoles.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Annoyed the shit out of me. Same here. It also seems less attentive to explosions, so if it's about to murder your face a timely grenade doesn't always work. I guess that's why they gave you the satchel charges but it still stumped me for quite a bit and now im beginning to dread the tentacles in xen.

Does this say anything about the attention span? how many of the topics an average internet user sees take longer than a few minutes to read? most of the articles I see are rather short and videos rarely last more than 10 minutes. and with videogames you dont often see someone sit down play for five minutes and than stop. plus i really do have add/adhd yet somehow nothing holds my attention longer than the internet/videogames. (well i guess the crazy pills help)

I doubt that the piracy issue will ever leave so i just deal with it and buy my stuff anyways. Support the author of whatever you get and pay the 60$. heck if there was software i could only obtain by pirating it, i would do so and send the developer a check in the mail. not all people can put there products out there for everyone to freely enjoy like Ross does.

is it just me or does the large tentacle monster in blast pit seem a tad bit more responsive than before? as in it is more attuned to movement.

wow speaking of my family being in the middle of this kind of thing I just found out that my was in charge of the transport of the shack the unibomber holed up in when it was brought on his base.

Someone apparently took Bane way too literally. Damn. That's what's funny about that whole thing. The dude walks in, hair painted red, not green, and when asked to confirm his identity he responds, "I'm the Joker"...and the Joker isn't even in TDKR. Hell, he's not even mentioned once. On the topic of the actual shooting, terrible tragedy. The guy is obviously mentally disturbed, but that's still not a good excuse for someone who's being touted as 'top of their class' and 'extremely intelligent' in news articles. If he was so intelligent he wouldn't have condemned 12 people to death, and himself to a life of mental rehab and/or years of gangrape in prison showers. But then again, there is no logic in insanity. Jesus this may not be "breaking news" now but goddamn. when I woke up and saw this on the news I immediately grabbed my phone. Know why? my sister was going to go to that movie. I thought it was that night as well, She didn't respond for a while and I freaked out. however she was going to go the next night, and the reason she did not respond was due to the fact she was put on alert because she works on the Air Force base literally across the street from the theater. They had done a recall and as it turns out people assigned to that base were in fact hurt. My other sister also worked at the hospital that victims were taken to and my mom worked at another. my family always seems to be close to this kind of thing, my sisters knew one of the columbine gunmen as well.
