Does God exist? (your opinion anyways.)
Obsidian replied to thebeelzebub's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
Interesting, so what happens if someone who has visions/knowledge of the spiritual plane conflicts with your visions/knowledge of God? Do you immediately discount that knowledge as being credible because it doesn't fit into what you believe (this is the key word in these discussions) in something else, or call it hallucinations? And how do you know that the God who reveals itself to you is the one true God you pray too? For all you know, it might not be God at all... I'm just playing satan's little helper here, since I've seen my fair share of things through conscious and dreams to have a firm enough stance in my knowledge. The beliefs of others aren't really of concern to me, so I don't get offended when conflicts arise in viewpoints, which happens a lot when my views get involved. -
So wait, why do you need a RAID setup to access two disk drives in the same machine? You could just use one for one set of items and the other for another set of items. That solves your storage dilemma without the headaches of using a software RAID on the OS level, which I don't suggest anyway. Unless you mean that somehow you can't access the other drive at all. In that case, you probably wouldn't be able to set up a software RAID anyway.

Milk and a red velvet cookie :F

Well considering I didn't pay for them, I can't really complain haha.

Okay, so I wasn't EXPECTING to get these, but I got them from a promo that I didn't think this retailer was participating in: -Sleeping Dogs -Hitman: Absolution -Far Cry 3 I didn't technically purchase these, but I'll take them anyway. Unless someone wants to trade for the Absolution code, I haven't redeemed it yet.

Debating whether to be happy or not that Amazon shipped my stuff early and it got here 3 days before I was expecting it. Normally I wouldn't be upset, and my housemates were off today, but there was almost $300 worth of stuff in this box that could've, for all the UPS driver knew, sat on my porch until I came home at almost midnight. But still, I got my stuff I bought for black friday TODAY and didn't pay extra for it. So yay?

Couldn't resist RAGE for $5.

If you have the spare cash, now is the time to remedy that issue, since most everyone is having decent sales on drives now. Plus you could always try removing the optical drive and replacing it with a 2nd HDD if you wanted.

I think that $250 estimate may be a little on the high side, but yes, I'm well aware of the little time it takes to update the drivers. Regardless, they still chose to keep up on their driver support for Linux, and that's really all that matters at they end of the day. The fact that Nvidia went through major hardware design upgrades really doesn't matter, since they knew what they were doing and chose to leave Linux support in a sub-par state until very recently. And the fact that the hardware in AMD/ATI cards hasn't seen a major redesign since the 90's and are still able to trade blows with Nvidia in most cases makes AMD's efforts a bit more impressive in my eyes, at least in price/performance ratios. AFAIK, the GTX 690 is still top-dog for single card performers in terms of gaming.

Well, it's really popular here now, especially with the release of Angry Birds Star Wars. The soda isn't too bad. Has a very tropical flavor for some reason. Needs more Dr. Pepper!
-
I think that goes without saying haha. Maybe that's why AMD hasn't released a 7990 card themselves, because of difficulties with crossfire. But who knows? PowerColor did it. The fact that PowerColor did it first is embarrassing for AMD and other card manufacturers/distributors. Maybe AMD doesn't see enough of a market for dual GPU cards to justify development costs. Fair enough, AMD's acquisition of ATI is recent enough for that to be the case. Still, they've kept up on the Linux front where Nvidia started slacking until very recently. AMD could've just as easily stopped updating the Linux drivers to save programming costs, but they didn't. They might if they follow a similar development map as their APUs, but as of now there's not much to suggest that's the case.

Bought Darksiders earlier today for 5 bucks. The game always mildly intrigued me, plus the second one looks badass!

I can't blame you, I've only hacked the firmware on a few mobile devices and wouldn't do the same with my computers. I'd rather not brick my system just to get a small increase in performance. Hopefully it's only having issues reporting the speed. It would suck if it started to misrepresent your temps too!

Actually, Steam for Linux has been the major pushing force behind Nvidia's new Linux drivers, and they are supposedly just as good as the AMD drivers now. Yeah, that and Linus Torvald telling Nvidia to go fuck themselves. No tough love was needed for functional AMD drivers to exist from the start. Though, if I wanted to use dual cards in Crossfire/SLI, I'd probably go for SLI. For some reason, SLI tends to be less troublesome than Crossfire in terms of gaming. Again, from what I've seen on tech forums and such.

That's perfectly fine, too. I'm surprised Apple computers hold up as well as they do because they use Foxconn boards, just like many PC tower manufacturers too (Dell, for example). Technically speaking, Apple hasn't invented anything since the Mini Displayport. They're just another computer company that takes what others have already invented, cherry pick things they like, and throw them into some decent products. The big thing Apple has that other companies don't is control over the hardware ecosystem their software operates in, but even then their software isn't always optimized properly the first time around. I personally prefer a dual-boot Ubuntu/W7 and a custom build myself. I've been running setups like these for years and haven't had an issue yet, from software or hardware, and they perform better than Apple computers and are easier to upgrade incrementally. I don't mind the risk and trust myself to build and maintain a reliable system, but that's my personal preference. Also, I'm not a fan of all-in-one computing for desktops. For a company that's supposed to be environmentally friendly, they make users go through a lot of displays...

I usually just use my computer for most music listening needs these days. MP3 players can't match a good sound card, even a cheap one that costs less than most mp3 players do.

I used to have one of those, actually I think I still do. It's great for what it is, except the battery on mine won't hold a charge and it's the third replacement I've used for it.

Banned for trying to make me blush. . . . . . . . . and succeeding

I admittedly own an iPod (really no other options for portable mp3 players with 100gb+ of storage these days) and iPhone. I would consider getting an Apple laptop for work or school simply for the build quality. That aluminum unibody shell is hard to best.

Banned because you can't type as fast as your avvy can.

I think I'll blame Skeet Fighter, kthxbai!

If you can call an all in one a desktop... XD I mean, they sell the minis and Pros, but the minis are seriously underpowered for even mid-level gaming and the Pros haven't had a meaningful spec bump since 2010. They're still charging 2000 USD for a computer with a Radeon HD 5770 and a quad-core Xeon from 2010!

And you can hide your weed in it!

While you're at it, punch them for thinking thinness is important for a desktop
