Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens [SPOILERS]
Selfsurprise replied to Alyxx Thorne's topic in Free-For-All
Grapes. It's not the best, but it is worth seeing at least once. I trust your judgement implicitly, which I'm basing solely on your splendid choice of avatar. -
I thought traps were something Admiral Ackbar was particularly concerned about, shows you what I know! I like how only a small portion of the people active on here DIDN'T vote for that option It's a veritable movement, I tell you. Attack Helicopter used to be a pejorative slur against our kind, but then we took that word and made it own. If you aren't an Attack Helicopter you most certainly cannot use the term, not even ironically.

Oh god the cables. THE CABLES. Is this hitherto undocumented phobia I'm picking up on? :3 "I shall have to invent a new classification of a lunatic for you." - Doctor Jack Seward, Dracula

Artists? (Possibly another image heavy topic)

I'm more familiar with moobs, to be honest... ^ If this isn't NSFW I don't know what is. -

Look at that second one again... Fairly obvious uncovered female torso... Sorry, in my defence I posted some mild nudity in another art related thread and actually remembered to include a NSFW warning. The second one is more of a vague mammarian eruption that an implicitly female form, at least I like to think. I'd be grateful if I wasn't banned from the forum days after signing up... ;p -
Always good to attempt that, I find. It's the one resolution you can make without it ever being any less meaningful or pressing.

Probably a little late to be wading in on this, but whatever... ;p I'm not sure why people didn't find SOMA particularly scary, because I found very atmospheric and tense. The numerous jump scares might seem like a cheap tactic, but for me it made the sense of vulnerability all the more palpable. Your character can't fight back, he can only run, hide and attempt to outmaneuver the creatures in the game. The monsters in particular, while not nearly as harrowing or abstract as some of the Silent Hill franchises most distressing antagonists, were very creepy on an existential level (potential spoilers >) I can't help thinking the games detractors are trying far too hard to appear jaded and cynical, due to the depressing circumstances of the cancelled Silent Hills. SOMA was even created in something called the H.P.Lovecraft Engine 3. You can't deny horror pedigree like that!

I actually rather enjoyed that game. It was utterly linear and brainless, but even a lot of today's more slick, narrative-driven first-person exploration games can feel a little bit one dimensional, at least in terms of gameplay. It didn't exactly help that Dante himself is an unbearably smug bellend, even by platinum haired and oddly effete anime standards that the series exudes. That being said a lot of the appeal for me in DMC and DMC 2 may have been in the enemy design, being the perennial monster geek that I am I love the creatures in both titles. The soundtrack is absolutely tekkers though, so good call Speaking of slick, narrative-centric, first-person games whose difficulty veers wildly from chapter to chapter - the soundtrack to is gorgeous and a serious recommendation for fans of sci-fi inflected dark ambient.

I pretty much just cherry picked stuff from my last.fm library and tried to mush together into something recognizable.

Whatever you all choose to do with your lives, I urge you, don't choose a career in retail. The most genocidal misanthrope you can imagine would seem like a garland wearing free love advocate compared to those of us who work in shop.

I'll make sure to come around your house at night and hide in your cupboards... :3 ~ It's a bit of an obvious fear but I really cannot abide heights. As a result I have a deep seated sense of prejudice and suspicion towards sky divers, rock climbers, and just adrenaline junkies in general.

Whilst I support the rights of all who fall under the LGBT catch-all, if you are going to give me the option to choose "Attack Helicopter" as my sexual preference I'm almost duty bound to select it. It's not even about the lulz anymore... :3 I think working in retail for the past decade has transformed me into a completely asexual entity. I barely register people as potential companions and tend to rigorously stick with people I'm acquainted with. Otherwise I'm genuinely happiest and most content with my own company. Working in a super market unfortunately makes you deeply suspicious of your fellow men and women. In public and at work, people are for the most part obstacles to me. Noisy, hirsute, mobile obstacles. Under normal circumstances I register a real human being's gender to about same degree I register an unassuming box on the floor flushed against a wall. It's inconsequential at best, or a health and safety hazard waiting to happen at worst. Masculinity is both hilarious and terrifying to me. I sometimes like to imagine some futuristic scenario where the majority of people find the concept of gender culturally unfathomable, and that "gender politics" would be the preserve of erudite archivists specializing in archaic world views and perspectives.

drop and smashed my tablet while trying to donate
Selfsurprise replied to Cat-Aclysmic's topic in Free-For-All
I think Ross should post a funding drive video to get Cat-Aclysmic a new tablet. -
I posted it more as a punchline, rather than presenting it for any real appraisal. I wouldn't take anything The Independent (or any British newspaper, for that matter) too seriously. You'll have to forgive me, I have a very moribund sense of humour... :3

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens [SPOILERS]
Selfsurprise replied to Alyxx Thorne's topic in Free-For-All
I've not seen them yet, but my older brother went to see it and didn't exactly have a good time. The power cut out for about ten minutes before the film started, then it happened again about half way through the screening. He actually left at that point and rather hastily claimed that "it was shit" and didn't like the new characters, and he also vowed to never watch the later episodes. Is it really that bad or is my brother just suckin' on sour grapes, like I suspect. I'm looking forward to watching them at some point, even if it isn't that good. I just want to wind my brother up. -
Whilst I've never visited Poland, I know the country has produced some absolutely brilliant artists, both traditional and modern and across loads of mediums (please note there may be some mild nudity or bodily weirdness in the following images, nothing too explicit but maybe slightly NSFW) Paweł Althamer Mirosław Bałka Zdzisław Beksiński Marian Boshusz-Szyszko Kasia Domanska Stanisław Frenkiel Władysław Fusek-Forosiewicz Tamara de Lempicka Roman Opałka Joanna Rajkowska Zdzisław Ruszowski Wilhelm Sasnal Konrad Smoleński Jakub Julian Ziolkowski Apologies for various image sizes/qualities.

Russia won't officially acknowledge any wrongdoing, if only to save face by claiming any evidence of political assassination on their part is simply the lurid accusations of Western bias. If the political landscape of Russia changes in several decades time, then a public reversal of their stance may very well occur. Why only a few days ago Japan made a diplomatic apology to South Korea, in which they finally officially acknowledged the existence of so called "comfort women", essentially civilian women drawn from Korea, Taiwan, China, etc who were forced in sexual slavery for Japanese troops. Japan even went as far as donating one billion yen as compensation to survivors of the historical atrocity. But before anyone praises Japans benevolent leaders for apparently righting this terrible wrong, what they are really doing is picking and choosing where and when to consent to blame as it suits their particular agenda. It's a horribly cynical move and even South Korea isn't universally impressed by the gesture.

I can't help envying those who can make characters look all twee and adorable, especially when rendered as big eyed anime characters. I've tried, but unfortunately my instinct when illustrating is to give everything a thousand beady eyes and miscellaneous teeth. I think I'm part Shoggoth, or something... I like him. Sort of like Brian from Family Guy meets Cho Aniki. ~ I do indulge in a bit of weird doodling, every now and then. MODEDIT: NSFW warning? Megrim Halo Tzeentch Thug Magic Self-Portrait 39 Steps Smile Like Sword Raw Clay, Sugar and Dirt Androphobia Leichenlinie Untitled (Blood Music Closing Quote) Self-Portrait I shant bother trying to explain this one... ..nor this one... Decided to not let work get me so down in the dumps. Go out to art galleries more in my free time.

I sort of feel like I'm hijacking a thread full of other peoples involved conversations, but this thread seems as good as any to post some of my favourite genres in the hope someones interest in piqued. If your a fan of any one following styles or artists/bands mentioned, give me a shout I'd thought posting some more genre specific threads once I'd been here for a bit, but I get the feeling this forum isn't big on duplicate or "variation on a theme" topics. Ambient/Drone (Christopher Bissonnette, Family Battle Snake, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, Secret Colors) Atmospheric/Ambient Black Metal (Alrakis, Benighted In Sodom, Drowning The Light, Summoning) Coldwave/Synth Pop (Berndsen, Iron Curtain, Oppenheimer Analysis, Xeno & Oaklander) Dark Ambient (Gustaf Hildebrand, Instincts, Kammarheit, New Risen Throne) Doom Metal/Stoner Metal (Bong, Church Of Misery, Dopelord, Pilgrim) Drum n' Bass/Jungle (Audio, B-Boy 300, Current Value, UFO!) Electroclash (Cut Copy, GusGus, Metronomy, The Presets) Experimental Electronica/Plunderphonics (Co La, Heatsick, Huerco S., Joseph Hammer) Future Funk (コンシャスTHOUGHTS, マクロスMACROSS 82-99, 「fibre」, Tendencies) Hardcore Punk (Modern Life Is War, Minor Threat, Reagan Youth, Skrapyard) Hip-Hop (Dope D.O.D., Flow Dan, MF Doom, Stig Of The Dump) Indie Electronica/Eclectica (Halls, Slava, Remember Remember, Rrose) Industrial/Industrial Rock/EBM (Haujobb, Nitzer Ebb, Skinny Puppy, Velvet Acid Christ) Martial Industrial (Blood Axis, Boyd Rice, Dernière Volonté, In Slaughter Natives) Neo-Folk (Current 93, Death In June, Sieben, Sol Invictus) Noise/HNW (The Rita, Streicher, Vomir, Werewolf Jerusalem) Old School Black Metal (Beherit, Blasphemy, Hellhammer, Nunslaughter) Power Electronics (Content Nullity, Genocide Organ, The Grey Wolves, IRM) Raw Black Metal/UGBM (Deiphago, Galloping Shadow, Grinning Death's Head, Sump) Rock Music of various guises (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Jesus Loves Heroin Band, McLusky, Winnebago Deal) Shoegazer/Post-Rock (Kitchens Of Distinction, Puerto Rico Flowers, Sleep Party People, The Twilight Sad) Tropical Drone/Seapunk (Fluorescent Heights, Hobo Cubes, Komodo Haunts, Monopoly Child Star Searchers) Vaporwave (Infinity Frequencies, Luxury Elite, Sacred Tapestry, Saint Pepsi) Witch House (▼□■□■□■, Bl▲ck † Ceiling, Crim3s, GL▲SS †33†H) Forgive my overtly pedantic sub-genre terminology and general obscurity... :3 There's loads more but I wasted enough time on this list as it is.

Ostensibly I'm male. I went with the third option to be safe, though.
