  1. Rex The Dog and Bolt Thrower on the same page. You people have rather ace taste is music! :3 Most High Cypher (Feat. GRiMM Doza, Karl Sin & King $atan) by G.R.I.M.M. In fact, I might just go and listen to the whole of Up In Smoke.
  2. No prob bob! :3 Start a Tumblr or Wordpress blog and see where it takes you, and don't fret about tailoring your output to the lowest common denominator. It's entirely understandable that one wants validation and a fanbase for work, but it's not worth worrying about numbers if you have to compromise something of yourself in the process. I think people can tell when someones heart isn't in it, even the swarming hordes of lazy and mean-spirited "deliberilliterates" on the internet. An example of a really good blog is the old school Games Workshop wargame (affectionately known as "Oldhammer") blog called Realms of Chaos 80's. Beneath its MS Paint cut n' paste logo is a website of genuine passionate discourse on the subject. Serious effort has gone into researching each article, tracking down figures in the Britain's wargaming community for the blogs numerous interviews, plus there is a buttload of shiny visuals sourced from vintage publications, as well as photos of the blog creator Orlygg's painted miniatures. There is also a strangely sedate sense of English humour throughout the text, which isn't something you see too often. All in all, whether you're interested in the subject or not, in my mind it is a worthy model of good blogmanship. As for your comments regarding Ross and Youtube video series in general, they are without a shadow of a doubt the more accessible of the two mediums in question. That being said I think it's harder work, both logistically and in terms of coming up with something that's simultaneously novel and broadly appealing. I think Ross Scott does a magnificent job of maintaining a channel that is uniquely funny and informative, and giving the viewer the sense that he hasn't really compromised his own values and appetites in the production of new material.
  3. WLjeVBnFNuM Ever since I replied to Ross's thread about game soundtracks, I've been on a serious bender for techno and deep n' dark electronic music in general, namely groups and artists Regis, Rrose, Vatican Shadow, Jock Club, Andy Stott, etc. I've had several experimental/noise/ambient projects in the past, and I'm considering making some of my own music in the minimal techno-vein. Anybody know any good programs for making bassline and percussion-centric music that aren't unfathomable to a musical amateurs such as myself? I've used eJay in the past and really enjoyed using them, despite the limitations. Are any of the later releases in the series worthwhile? I'm juggling two possibilities, either Techno eJay 4 or the more up-to-date eJay Dance 6 reloaded (and maybe eJay Hip Hop 5 reloaded, for a vaporwave project I've been hankering to do) but seeing as the last program I played was Techno eJay 2 I'm not sure what to expect of these latest iterations.
  4. This is quite a broad subject but it's one I feel to rather close to my interests, but I'll try to keep it brief. Certain underground movements and subcultures emerging from the 1950's and beyond had appropriated certain images and ideas from the scary elements of 20th century politics. Whether it's bikers, rock music fanatics and various freak folk culling Nazi insignia in their apparel and design, the Eastern European avant-garde repurposing fascist tropes for their happenings and "situation art", or punk and new wave parodying the stoic and po-faced behaviour of neo-fascists and other conservative demographics (Reagan Youth, are a band that spring to mind) we have seen right wing extremist idols manifesting within what tend to be reactionary and usually left-wing circumstances. Well I'm a fan of many strange musical genres that, on the face of it, could be misconstrued as being sympathetic to nationalist views and right-wing ideology. Neo-Folk, Martial Industrial, Power Electronics and even some Black Metal groups display a marked tendency towards world war and militant themes, usually as a sort of historical narrative to draw inspiration from. Perhaps in retrospect it was somewhat naive of me to not realize that the real contingencies of right wing politics would try to hijack certain cultural practices. I've noticed a disturbing trend among certain genres of music, fantasy literature and even computer gaming sources that are harbouring an increasingly vocal and cohesive minority of people with undeniably racist/nationalist views, often espousing deeply incorrect political and social narratives that range from indiscriminate Islamophobia to outright holocaust denial - but all without the kind of automatic denial that would of met such outright conservatism not so long ago. I'm not ignorant to the fact that right-wing politics are gaining an ever steadier foothold in Europe, so I'm not so surprised regarding the efforts of certain people to shoehorn their beliefs into various contexts, irrespective of how valid or warranted they are. The point of this thread is to ask you all if you've seen similar trends arising in your interests and hobbies respective communities, and to ask if you agree that these individuals aren't openly challenged about their politics as much as they would of been ten years ago.
  5. You aren't alone Heliocentrical! ;3 I think it's just a case of finding out which of your friends have a higher degree of interest and/or tolerance for your opinions, and just changing your habits and restraining yourself a tiny bit around certain folk. I have a habit of creating rather lengthy and analytical posts on forums, which at best alienate certain more casual users or else invite needlessly hostile reactions. I've learned to find people who are worth talking to and in return try my utmost to give other people intelligent, reasonable and above-all-else polite answers to things, even if I'm not personally that interested or knowledgeable about the subject at hand. If it helps I'm someone who sits down and reads anything a person like you will take the time to post, because I'm an avid reader both on and off the internet. I read a lot hyper-dense essayist literature on themes such as contemporary art theory/documentation, literary criticism, feminist and post-gender work, obscure political movements and philosophical writers like Kirkegaard, Zizek and de Montaigne - so it's safe to say I have a very high degree of tolerance for more in-depth posts. I love more substantial conversations regarding things people feel strongly about. Jeb_CC made a good point by suggesting you find an outlet for your thoughts, like a blog or a thread, that way you aren't compelling anyone to listen to even respond. That way anyone who responds is taking on a small mote of the responsibility for the conversation, and it quickly become apparent if they are simply wading in out of sheer ignorance rather than contributing any real insight on the topic. Despite my advice regarding learning how to restrain or consider your posts, you should never feel like you have to compromise or "dumb yourself down" for people who want to make no effort. Don't be afraid of providing context if you feel a certain aspect of your post is niche or obscure enough, learning things is always fun for those of us who are so inclined. It's also worth remembering that getting short answers from people isn't necessarily a bad thing. Who hasn't gone on the internet just to procrastinate? And consequently haven't been in the mood to write anything of quality and quantity? I hope this helps, and if you decide to post anything in future I'll more than likely reply in a meaningful way.

  7. I'm from the Midlands, from Tamworth to be precise - a stones throw away from my beloved Birmingham - and I can confirm that your suspicions are probably correct. Most nights in any sizeable Mercian town look like this game. I'll keep saying it to anyone who will hear me out until I'm blue in the face. A post-apocalyptic game set in the Midlands would be marvelous.
  8. I'd agree entirely with this if Eddy wasn't so intrinsically stupid. Ed is a big dumb oaf but has no pretensions of being otherwise, Eddy likes to think he is street smart and savvy but as the series has shown us time and time again he isn't nearly as clever as he credits himself to be. Nice reference by the way, I still love that program... :3

  11. The summary of my life, ladies and gentleman. I swear to God. Everyone freaking does this to me, and it pisses me off. XD I know those feelz. I've never understood why people think you can just drop everything you're doing (it might not be important, but I'm doing it nevertheless!) in order to satisfy some sporadically planned idea of theirs that they could easily of told you about days ago.
  12. ^ Are you a big fan of Mr. Oizo Alyxx? I absolutely love his Lambs Anger album. Bark Like a Dog For Me by Dustin Zahn
  13. Mine tend to be somewhat disassociated from me. It resembles a total visual immersion in the events which I'm entirely aware isn't real, or at least not emotionally invested enough to believe its real. It's not quite lucid dreaming though, as the stimuli is out of my control.
  14. Wait for the DLCs and expansions... I have a small list of unrealistic dreams I would like to see realised in future DLC content. A sprawling quest involving the Kibbo Kift Kindred. A bizarre 20th century English movement drawing from various world faiths, the occult, bush craft and even boy scouting. Nuka blooded monsters. Creatures of surged strength and hyperactivity due to excessive industrial-level Nuka Cola consumption. Actively hunts any player carrying any. Bring back the Confirmed Bachelor/Cherchez La Femme perks. Seriously, let me gay up my game! Find holotapes full of weird musicians and bands from the 60's like Tiny Tim and Napoleon XIV. A Blatto sapiens race (i.e. sapient humanoid cockroaches) as recommended in this Bogleech article. Genetically engineered duck-griffons.
  15. I think people sometimes exaggerate what takes place in their dreams, in order to make seem more random and unique than they actually are. I think get bored of that type of thing rather quickly. I was a little worried that my post came across the same way, for I don't tend to have dreams featuring celebrities or fictional characters or whatnot. I do have a lot of dreams that play out like TV program or computer game, from which I'm about as bodily and emotionally detached as I would be in real life.
  16. Rather amusing, It's a pity they haven't expanded the mod as some sort of game replacer. Escape From Techno Hell!

  19. 10/10, definitely on the same intellectual plateau as Hobbes, De Montaigne, Zizek... :3 "I think it's one of the scars in our culture that we have too high an opinion of ourselves. We align ourselves with the angels instead of the higher primates." - Angela Carter
  20. Thanks BTG :3 Species: Weexoky Kin Planet: Aurosynk, a world with a dense syrupy atmosphere and lifeforms that move through it like water. Classification: Exoskeletal Vertebrate Personality: Rather friendly, avid fans of tabletop wargames, sometimes get grumpy when thirsty Technological advancement level: Until recently the Weexoky Kin were at a late 20th-century Terran stage of technology (roughly equivalent to the 1980's/1990's) but due to unforseen and unsanctioned contact with alien races, the species agreed to an alliance with the federation to protect themselves against less benevolent forces in the universe. ~ Next: Species: Planet: Classification: Personality: What do they eat?:

  22. I wasn't aware I was giving off that vibe! ;p Pedro The Lion (namesake of Seattle based musician David Bazan, with various collaborators) is intersting for sounding like an Americana-inflected indie rock fare, great songwriting but not exactly pushing out the boat to uncharted genre waters. The lyrics can often be rather visceral, unusually so for a band of this ilk, which I find pleasantly contrasting. You might enjoy his album Achilles Heel and I recommend this short ans sweet number, Transcontinental. 8hzqcK9Y7Zc

  24. Yeah, it kinda irritates me how just kinda hostile people get with their complaints. I can't tell you how many times I've heard the exact phrase "Everyone knows that Bethesda has s***y writers" (censorship mine, because I'm odd like that), often before bringing up how they wish Obsidian had made it. Like clockwork. Especially with people complaining about the story (which honestly, I don't get. The story here seems pretty dang cool, actually. Is there something I've missed?). Ironically, New Vegas writer Chris Avellone has even said he likes the direction the games have been going (as seen in this stream: ), which is kinda hilarious to me.I mean, don't get me wrong, there are flaws. But the level of vitrol is just stupidly over the top from folks, with people trying to declare it the worst game of the year or the death of the series. It's insane. But I guess, sadly all too common with fanbases these days. If Fallout 4 has a poor plot, I must of been playing some exceptionally shitty games before getting it The story might not be earth-shatteringly original and isn't going to bring about a cultural paradigm shift in the whole broad scope of story telling, but can any of the games detractors honestly find an open world game that had a genuinely great plot? I've heard The Witcher 3 has a pretty strong narrative and cast, but I've only played that game for a few hours around a friends house. Big open world RPG fare, I find, will often consist of a lot of loosely connected lore and subplots that actually serve to make the exploratory elements of the game all the more fun. There is a large swathe of the gaming community that venerate impressively dull people like AlphaOmegaSin, or any other Youtuber whose channels are filled with their own overinflated anger, embarrassing sense of privilege and generally unintelligent responses to anything they don't understand - which is almost everything. The whole undignified kerfuffle surrounding Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball, for example. That lewd masculine response to the news that the game wouldn't be marketed in the UK and America honestly makes me wonder about the sexuality of some gamers. "I'M A MAN SO I LIKE YOUNG NUBILE ANIME GIRLS WITH LARGE BREASTS BOUNCING UP AND DOWN SO I'M DEFINITELY NOT INTO OTHER MEN WHO WEAR FEDORAS AND READ RICHARD DAWKINS." Good job of convincing me, ab-human gamers of the internet! :3
  25. If anything, this test is showing what a bunch of damned bleeding-heart hippies we all are... That was a rather good and in-depth survey. Did anybody find some of the questions really hard to answer? Especially given the lack of a "don't know/unsure" option. For some of the questions I was torn between quite opposing positions, often an intellectual response versus a more visceral emotional feeling. Some of the items about criminal justice and rehabilitation weren't as straightforward for me. But on the flipside some questions I had no qualms about, particularly about sexuality and same-sex relationships.
