I've never fully understood the "if you haven't watched it, you cannot criticize it" argument on something when it is a matter of innate interest and taste.

I don't watch the Fast and the Furious films because I don't like car related things, I wouldn't watch MLP because I don't enjoy watching things designed to make children want merchandise.

Because it's much more than just that... It's actually a good show if you actually watch through it...

I didn't like the first 2 episodes either...

That's a matter of opinion, both it being good and more than a toy commercial. You have your opinion and I can have mine.

a commercial with adultish references/jokes is still a commercial. The original and only reason there is a MLP cartoon is to sell the toys for money.

Please DO NOT torrent the show. Aside from the fact that it's illegal, it's immoral and unethical. If you love the show, you want them to continue making it; it costs money to do that. Also, you have no right to steal someone's intellectual property. I see the Youtube videos being pulled as a good thing; Hasbro thinks the show is profitable now, so they'll take it off Youtube and sell their own copies.

Another thing that's been bugging me: why do people hate the show so much? No, I'm not asking a deep philosophical question--I'm simply asking if the show's that bad, why do people spend so much of their energy hating the show? I remember the Twilight novels--I never read them, but from what I heard they were trash and pretty much just porn for twelve year old girls. My sister and mom did read them and they said that they were awful. At that point, I made up my mind about the books being bad. However, I did not go on internet forums saying how bad it was and calling people that like them stupid (even if I would be right). If something's bad, it's not worth my time and effort. So why do other people spend so much energy hating something bad? Wouldn't they rather spend their energy on something more productive?

I think it's the same reason people hate Portal because of the fans: they want to feel smugly superior to everyone else.

Personally it's the fan base and the fact that it's a corporate profit scheme. I'm an insane fanboy in my own things, but I keep that in my own brain, I don't push it on other people nor do I interject it into other conversations or such happenings. I've had so many Bronies interrupt a perfectly fine thread or real life conversation with something MLP related.

I don't go around making every conversation have some relation to Batman or Stanley Kubrick. I don't make it a central part of my day to day persona, like a lot of the Bronies I've met.

I think Twilight is far worse that MLP, and as far as I know MLP doesn't support misogyny but I still speak out against both.

it's a corporate profit scheme.

As opposed to say, Apple computers, Dell computers, ipods, iphones, video games, and even food? Do you criticize people for liking those things?

I don't push it on other people nor do I interject it into other conversations or such happenings.

So you've never said, "You haven't seen Dr. Strangelove? It's a classic; you should watch it sometime. It's hilarious." You've never made a Batman reference? I find that hard to believe, no offense.

I've had so many Bronies interrupt a perfectly fine thread or real life conversation with something MLP related.

In regards to your thread interruptions, that's the internet for you; many people (myself included) will make meme references. I've never had the real life conversation derailment thing happen, so I can't empathize.

Want to know why we say you can't criticize it until you've watched it? It's because you're criticizing something when you have an extremely superficial idea of what it's like. None of us thought the show would be good from our first impressions, but we all watched it and liked it. And in the time it took me to remember to post this, Michael Archer has responded to poiuyt for me, but he triple spaced so his response is enormous. :P

By the way Michael, why is torrenting the show so different from say, watching it on Youtube?

There is no better than/worse than, it's media, not accomplishment.

As opposed to say, Apple computers, Dell computers, ipods, iphones, video games, and even food? Do you criticize people for liking those things?

I'm talking about the cartoon being a commercial for the toys and that being the only purpose for it existing. If there was a cartoon about talking iPhones made by apple to increase their profits, I'd be against that too.

So you've never said, "You haven't seen Dr. Strangelove? It's a classic; you should watch it sometime. It's hilarious." You've never made a Batman reference? I find that hard to believe, no offense.

I don't bring it out of nowhere all the damn time and I don't smear it all over my persona so you can't don't think of it in relation to me. I bring up those things when it's actually in relation to something in the conversation. and if someone doesn't like the fact that I brought it up, I don't reply with some smartass image accusing them being some sort of 'hater' or being 'mad'.

In regards to your thread interruptions, that's the internet for you; many people (myself included) will make meme references. I've never had the real life conversation derailment thing happen, so I can't empathize.

When someone mentions a politician being like some pony in a serious conversation about the US Debt, it's pretty annoying. I know people spout memes, and I hate the unfunny ones (that being most of them) when they reach some level of popularity.

Why is it worth your energy?

Because I have a lot of free time on my hands and media is incredibly important to me, so I like to see good media getting it's due and bad media being ignored and ridiculed.

There is one space between each of by responses and posts; I DID NOTHING WRONG. (Off topic, did you know that wrong is an adverb? Take that, high school english teachers!)

I don't think streaming videos are illegal, but on a moral issue:

For one thing, Youtube is huge; if something is on Youtube, usually the owners of the intellectual property know it's up. The onus is on them to file a complaint; if no complaint is filed, it's assumed they don't have a problem with it. Torrent sites are too underground for them to do anything about it and they're usually in different countries. Props to the Sweedish police for taking down the The Pirate Bay guys. Really, it's only unethical if the corporation has a problem with you using their intellectual property. People like Valve could easily get all the machinimas on Youtube taken down, but they don't, so the videos are ethical.

Also, when people who upload streaming videos are sent cease-and-desist letters from corporations, they usually apologize and quickly take the video down even if they're not technically in breach of the law--they have a respect for other people's property. Torrent people on the other hand, are obnoxious.

So you like the police doing illegal things? How about they come over, and beat you to a pulp, that sound good to you too?

The Pirate Bay has never done anything even remotely illegal.

Don't insult me. I have trained professionals to do that.

The people that upload MLP to Youtube aren't exactly angels. The original (I think) video of episode 1 with over 2,000,000 views was taken down due to a copyright claim recently: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeJ6-gN0eB4 along with a score of other episodes but people will just re upload them. MAST3RLINKX is a prime example. His episodes were removed, so he re uploaded them and made a YTP mocking the legality of what he was doing. I fail to see any ethical difference between watching and downloading MLP on Youtube and torrenting it.

I'm just going to say this, we don't actually know if it was Hasbro who toke the videos down. While they did respond to the take downs they were incredibly vague and never even said that it was them. All they said was to watch it on The Hub. In fact it was probably just people like Epsilon and BTG who got them taken down by flagging the videos for copyright infringement.

They call me Snake. They call me Es Rake. They call me Srahkay. That's nahmaname. That's nahmaname. That's not my... name.

Just because I don't think I would enjoy watching the show doesn't mean I would deprive other of its.... err.... whatever they watch it for.

"People like" could include me. Why use me as an example, anyway? I dislike the show (from what I've read about it), not the fans.

How can you possibly know if you actually dislike the show?

I suppose it is kind of hard to tell when someone is joking around when all you can see is text.
