So I know this is really digging up this thread, but recently some conflicting benchmarks of the FX 8350 chips have arisen that really refute other reviews in terms of performance and comparisons to Intel's Ivy Bridge (or 3000 series, if you go by the SKUs) chips (which mostly boil down to saying how terrible the 8350 is and to go for an intel i5). eu8Sekdb-IE (another one using a GTX 670 is coming up to add more varied results and supposedly dispell acusations that the performance gains come strictly from the AMD/AMD pairing). I thought this was really interesting and worth mentioning here. Plus people on other sites are mentioning it in a negative light (aka, Intel fanboys raging).

As much as I love it, Ubuntu can be a weird pain in the ass sometimes. I've been putting off upgrading from 12.04 LTS hoping that the 13.04 (or whatever number it'll have) LTS would be out before long, and recently I noticed a weird bug in 12.04. When playing audio through my bluetooth headphones, audio playback and input works just fine. But when I tried playing audio through the physical headphone jacks and HDMI connections on my box, nothing. Not a pop or hiss. I haven't minded this much, since I usually work with the wireless headphones anyway, but today I got an itch to tackle this issue. After hours of rummaging through troubleshooting documents, manually changing config files, uninstalling and installings drivers and applications, I had nearly given up. So, I threw my arms up and decided to see if the issue would magically disappear if I was running 12.10 instead. Two hours later, and I have sound.

Decided to take a shortcut in Dark Souls this afternoon. I cut through Valley of the Drakes the Blighttown and bypassed both the Capra and Gaping Dragon bosses at the cost of a lot of patience to get through drakes and lots of high level enemies. But then, after I leveled a bit, I went back and took out the Capra and unlocked the Depths. I'll probably tackle that dungeon, soul-farm, but then I'll use the short-cut I opened through New Londo and skip that first-half of Blighttown altogether.

Dark Souls PC, stuck at the capra boss again. Small boss areas are no bueno for mages.

The Accursed Farms "Best Game of 2012" Awards

Yeah, the lead Black Mesa has here doesn't surprise me for two reasons: 1) it's a free game and 2) this forum is kind of based around Half-Life moreso than other game franchises. -
Would require a lot of special fx I think. Probably, but I don't think it needs the same level of sfx as movies like Tron: Legacy, the Transformers movies, the Marvel films, etc. I think they could easily do a good film with the same amount of sfx as, say, the Pirates films (the first three, anyway; never saw the fourth). Call of Cthulhu seems more story-driven than visually compelling.

I like my children like my Thanksgiving Turkeys! That's right, peeps: wrapped in plastic, frozen solid, and weighing in at 30 pounds!

Yeah, I like to think that the general chat is the younger sibling to the random thread. Sometimes it's cool with being its own thing, but sometimes it'll try to mimic its older sibling

If they did it right, I bet a good movie could be made from Call of Cthulhu.

I voted for Far Cry 3, since I haven't played the other games on that list. I know, I have no reason NOT to play Black Mesa, but I'm waiting for them to finish the game through Xen and/or release the Mod through Steam, since they got the greenlight to do so. -
I almost made it through the Steam sales... ended up buying the Skyrim DLC and the PC edition of Dark Souls.

I'd like to see just how expandable that box is. From the pictures and video I saw, I don't see a way to swap out RAM, unless that daughter board has more than just the graphics hardware on it. That case does look really cool, though. Reminds me a bit of the Bitfenix Prodigy for some reason.

Paranormal Activity 3 on Netflix, give it a 3/5. By the third installment, the story elements are very much the same. It was kind of cool to see the demon terrorize the girls as kids, though the rules for the demon are loosely followed here. We finally get to see the bitch grandmother that's responsible for this mess, which only goes to prove my statement that there's at least 1 women behind every cosmic fuck up.

I don't feel as comfortable as I did a few minutes ago. I thought that sort of thing was normal...

He's been giving Gabe Newell private shows. Ho! Who's hand is this in my pants?

I've never understood the appeal of LARPing, personally. And this is coming from someone who's been playing Skyrim, SMT: Nocturne, and Torchlight since August. I much prefer something like paintball or lasertag. If you make someone say "ouch" in LARPing, it's their point (I'm hoping I'm not right there)

Skyrim, this game and NV is a lot more immersive now that they're not crashing on my system anymore.

Yeah, my comment I made months ago here is still fairly true. Except that I can only think of 1 vita title I'd want to play, but I played the crap out of it on the PS2. Although, now that Vita hacks are out there, it's definitely worth a look for people who are interested in their current and upcoming library.

I imagine it would, since there's a good chunk of games that don't natively support gamepads. Either that, or Valve is going to create some sort of software layer that translates inputs from the gamepad into keyboard commands for the games, which wouldn't be very difficult. Though, I could also see developers looking at the Steam Box announcement and thinking "Hey, we might want to issue patches to natively support gamepads in our games." Either way, if you want a preview of the games that'll be available for the box, look under the "Linux" section in the store.

Seems like a great way for console gamers to get into/try the Steam ecosystem even if they don't have a gaming computer. I personally won't be buying one, but I also have a decent gaming PC already.
