Well here continues the currently weekly march of Freeman's Mind. This pacing should be treated like an isotope, it's hard to say how long it will remain stable. I think this one may be a little bit below average. I tried going a slightly different direction with it to avoid making things feel too mundane, but I'm not sure it really had the effect I wanted. Bonus points if you can find the pun used in this episode, I'm guessing a lot of people will miss it.

Since the last few uploads to Machinima.com have had the color and brightness distorted when they go on Youtube, this time I intentionally screwed up the picture in the OPPOSITE way to try and counteract what I'm guessing they were doing and it looks like it mostly worked. They're still uploading 640x360 content as 1280x720 however, so next episode I may just upscale the original 848x480 footage to 1280x720 so while it won't be HD quality, it will at least be sharper.

I've seen many posts before asking me to use mods to improve the graphics for Half-Life Source, with this episode being a good spot in the series to change things. I've experimented with every mod I could find for it and they ALL had problems. Some shaders would be overblown and/or not transfer to Source recorder, some models would be missing textures or not behave when recorded in a demo, some textures would make some areas look much better, but stick out horrendously in others, and most of them change some of the original weapons. For all these reasons I'm not planning on using visual enhancement mods for the game. I doubt people were really watching a game this old for the eye candy anyway.

Since I've increased the pacing of FM, I'm currently falling behind on Civil Protection, emails, subtitles, website improvements, and several other things. So if it looks like everything else is being neglected, it is, but not intentionally. I'll get caught up again at some point.

What I'm wondering is.....will he get his memory back? I'm not complaining, I just kinda am wondering wether he might realize what happened later on.

All and all, a very enertaining episode. It's actually reminds me of the earlier ones when he didn't know what stuff was( like the aliens) and wanted to know what he was going around him. I'm feeling nostalgia at the moment...

Mostly, I haven't really figured out how gradually I want it to be though.

Oh ok, do it however you see fit. I know it won't be instantly so it'll probably be over episodes. It's probably going to be slightly funny(for us, frustrating for Freeman) when he remembers again 'cause he'll remember that they took all his stuff and put him in a trash compacter.

I liked this episode. Not the best but still fairly decent. Freeman was surprisingly calm about the barnacle encounter at the end though, probably still kind of numb after waking up.

I wonder, does the time-out mean Freeman regenerated his sanity?

liked that part about waking up in the trash compactor again. Says a lot about how his life is.

now time to find that pun...

My mind keeps going back to the rock bottom quote.

Awesome episode, the slow pacing really fits your style. Excellent decision to give him amnesia, as some members have said, it should allow for some funny scenes. I am looking forward to the next episode by far.

Also, I am doing my best to take care of the forum with the other staff, so at least you won't have to worry too much about that. I think you should get a bigger staff so you can focus entirely on making your videos.

I was not expecting amnesia, but it makes sense. (Although waking up in a trash compactor AGAIN is also a little weird, but par for the course with this dude.)

I could have sworn I posted in this thread earlier...

Anyway, it was an enjoyable episode. His amnesia is quite entertaining.

Feel free to PM me about almost anything and I'll do my best to answer. :)

I wouldn't take too long if it were me; it may start to get dull after 2-3 episodes, and there will be other stories to move on with around that time. Still, I like the amnesia idea, and that it will take several eps; something as important to the plot as the captured part needs repercussions. Being a writer myself, I know this: any event in a story that stands out needs to have a lasting echo, to change the game in some way. :ugeek:

Great episode, like the amnesia idea, I too am looking for the pun, the only thing that jumped out at me was "turn valve".

Great episode. At first I was a little disappointed that he wasn't freaking out when he was about to be crushed to death, but then he said he woke up in a compactor again, I laughed.

Yea, the only pun I could think of was the Valve thing. Well, someone mentioned the Rock bottom thing.

EDIT: You have to tell Machinima that this is Season 2.

EDIT EDIT: Is it the 'This isn't the right path' line? Because he's on the left. I've watched it a few times before I caught it. lol.

I think he was a little too calm about the barnacle, otherwise, well done. Something as crazy as he went through could have all been just a dream, and it'll be funny to have him start freaking out again and relearning his lessons.

Why are there crates in the trash compactor? Did they fail the tests in the box smashing room?
